Math inspiration, a new documentary film season, and resources to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from WOUB Learning Lab

Our Ohio High School Documentary Festival

It is once again time to begin our annual documentary festival. We had a great experience with two schools last year, but we would love to hear stories from all over our region. We are working on developing an outline for introducing the project to classes as well as support for classes along the way. If you are interested, please email us and we can work with you directly to see how we can involve your students in this year’s festival.

Need for Connectivity

Learn the story of an incredible panther, FP224, and how vehicles and human development can adversely affect wildlife. In this resource from PBS Learning Media, you can view clips from the documentary, The Need for Connectivity, that outlines the challenges facing the Florida Panther and how wildlife crossings could impact panthers and other species. Virtual Field Trip

Thursday, September 21 at 1pm

NOVA Education will host a LIVE virtual field trip with Dr. Heather Berlin on Thursday, September 21 at 1pm on YouTube and Facebook.

Dr. Berlin, host of NOVA’s popular Your Brain series, will guide us in understanding how the brain forms new ideas and what factors aid creativity. We will deep-dive into the complexity of consciousness, explore how thoughts interact in our mind, and how unconscious thinking affects our habits, creativity, and sense of self. This free event is open to the public, educators and students.

Picture Books about Careers

It’s important for children to learn about the world of work — the kind of jobs there are and why people take the jobs they take — so they begin to get a sense of the opportunities that will be there for them in the future. It can also be fun to talk to your child about their interests, skills, and talents and think about the different kinds of jobs that exist and how those jobs might connect with these interests and skills. In this way, they can be exposed to new and different career paths, the people in those jobs, and imagine what it might be like to do that work. This collection of books is a fun way to help children explore lots of different jobs. This collection goes along with the Jamming on the Job podcast to explore careers in a fun way.

New Inspo for Your Math Class

This is a fun set of resources from PBS Learning Media. The resources include, The PBS Learning Media collection from NOVA’s From Zero to Infinity, which illustrates how and where key mathematics concepts, used in geometry, algebra, and calculus, were created.
