REEDSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB)- The South Gallia Rebels took down the Eastern Eagles in an early season battle 78-47.

To start the game, the Rebels started strong and held the Eagles offense down. South Gallia was playing aggressively and kept up the early momentum. The first quarter concluded with a score in the Rebels’ favor, 22-10. Early signs showed that Eastern could not keep up with the heat that South Gallia brought to the court.

Going into the second quarter, the Rebels were still ruling the hardwood. However, the Eagles had made a slight improvement on the offensive end making more shots. Both teams started to rack up fouls. The second quarter concluded with South Gallia up 44-24.

The Eagles came out of the locker room prepared to fill the score gap and to hit the ground running. Eastern sophomore Derrick Barnes hit two back-to-back three pointers. This helped to rejuvenate the crowd, but was simply not enough to put the Eagles back in the sky. The Rebels kept control of the game with a 59-35 score after three quarters of action.

South Gallia had Eastern grounded the entire game with no shot at a comeback. The Eagles’ defense was no match for the Rebels’ offense. South Gallia’s Gabe Frazee led the team with 16 points, helping their offensive attack roll throughout the game. In the end, the Rebels came out strong, and the Eagles were unable to match the energy.

Eastern is back in action on Friday, where they will face the Belpre (1-0). Whereas South Gallia will face  Minford (0-0) on Friday.
