Racine, OH (WOUB)— Federal Hocking’s girls showcased dominance in their victory against Southern.

The Lancers asserted control early on with impressive steals, field goals, and 3-pointers during the first quarter, maintaining a strong defensive presence.

This defensive presence accelerated them to an early 18-0 lead going into the second period of play.

The second quarter featured much of the same. Brenlee Cottrill led the way with six steals going into the half.

This helped the Lancers maintain their lead, going into the break with a score of 23-4. Southern was no match for the Federal Hocking’s resilience on both ends of the court.

The second half was much of the same as Southern struggled to keep up with Federal Hocking’s strong team effort.

Going into the final quarter, Federal Hocking held a 43-6 lead.

The Lancers propelled to a victory with a final score of 47-6.

Federal Hocking was able to hold a tight grip on Southern thanks to players Brenlee Cottrill and Mckayla Nelson. Cottrill scored a majority of the points, 23, and had 10 steals. Nelson scored 11 points next, the next highest number of points scored in the game.

Federal Hocking stays tied atop the TVC Hocking conference standings.  The tie will be settled Thursday Feb. 1 against the Waterford Wildcats.

Head Coach Amos Cottrill spoke about the magnitude of this matchup:

“We’ve got a big one Saturday verse Southeastern that we got to take care of, but Waterford is probably one of the biggest games in the last decade or so for us.  It’s going to be a big one and it is going to be a fun one for us.”

The Tornadoes drop to 3-12 on the year.  They will remain in Racine with their next matchup against Ravenwood.

Federal Hocking improves to 13-4 on the season.
