POMEROY, OH (WOUB) — The Meigs Marauders boys looked to extend their winning streak against the third ranked Nelsonville-York Buckeyes on Friday night.

The boys started the game slowly, trailing 8-0 midway in the first quarter. They quickly came back to even out the score before the end of the first quarter. Their fast paced offense helped them attack the rim and get an edge over the Buckeyes. The Marauders finished the first quarter 13-12.

The second quarter was nothing short of chippy. Meigs looked sloppy offensively. Nelsonville-York forced turnovers and kept the Marauders on their toes. We saw some sparks of offense for the Buckeyes. Junior Point Guard Briant Call ended the first half for Nelsonville-York with a beyond half-court shot, sending the Buckeyes with a 26-27 lead.

Meigs didn’t waste any time starting the second half. They took advantage of a slow paced Nelsonville-York squad, while playing sound defense and finding multiple and-one opportunities at the rim. Freshman Reed Brinager started to heat up against the buckeyes, with a barrage of difficult baskets. The freshman put on a display of mid range shots and heavily contested finishes.

Going into the final quarter the Marauders focused on maintaining their lead. Slowing down on offense and playing strong defense allowed them to seal the victory against Nelsonville-York, finishing the game 58-51. With a majority of points coming from Brinager, he finished with 25 points. Dustin Vance also helped secure the win with 14 points.

Meigs Marauders is now holding onto a 11 game winning streak. With a record of 12-2 the Marauders are now second in the TVC. They take on the 10-4 Trimble Tomcats on Saturday the 27th.
