Ohio Women’s Basketball makes it three straight wins with a 71-55 victory against Miami

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio Women’s Basketball (7-11, 4-4 MAC) picked up its third-straight win in this rendition of the Battle of the Bricks inside the Convo.

The Bobcats took a commanding 71-55 victory against Miami (4-14, 2-6 MAC) without one of their key players in sophomore guard Jaya McClure who is still out with an injury.

As a team, Ohio Women’s Basketball shot 44% from the field as the baskets were coming all afternoon. For Miami, most of game was the opposite as the looks it was given couldn’t produce baskets because to Ohio’s defense. 

One player who shined on the court for Ohio was freshman Bailey Tabeling. Tabeling led the team in not only points with 18, but she also recorded seven rebounds and was dominate from the arc going 4-5 from the 3-point line.  

“I think being one of the first people to come off the bench normally gives me an energy, so being able to start with the energy also helped us,” Tabeling said.

Tabeling was not alone in scoring though as Madi Mace, Laylay Fantroy and Monica Williams also scored in double figures. 

Head Coach Bob Boldon said after the game that he is proud of the growth he has seen from his players as the season has progressed. 

“This is the fourth game in a row we had the lead at halftime, and we are doing a better job of handling that every single time,” Boldon said. “It may sound like a simple thing to do, but it’s not. It’s apart of their growth and it’s exciting from my standpoint to see that growth.” 

Ohio will return to the Convo to take on Buffalo on Jan. 31.
