ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Ohio came into the Convo against Buffalo having some momentum after its 71-55 win over Miami and was hoping to add to its three game win streak. Ultimately Buffalo proved to be too much for Ohio as it fell short 81-63.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats were competitive but quickly found themselves running against the Bulls. Things became out of hand as the shots for Ohio weren’t falling.

Buffalo for much of the night was all over the paint as it found its target with effectivity. Overall, the it shot 52% from the field and scored 54 points in the paint. Chellia Watson would end her night with 27 points and racked up 9 rebounds.

For the Bobcats, the shot selection and the inability to defend the paint were key issues that they ran into. They shot only 28% from the field in the loss.

Laylay Fantroy and Monica Williams led Ohio in scoring both with 13 points.

“Things didn’t go how we planned, and they didn’t go as expected,” Fantroy said. “When we were getting in there, we weren’t getting the shots we wanted. We weren’t finishing, but we just had to continue going through and just had to push through.”

Ohio’s next task comes in opponent Ball State who remains undefeated in MAC play. Head coach Bob Boldon says he is looking for better communication from his team ahead of the matchup.

“It’s going to be a difficult task for us,” Boldon said. “They’re good and going to their gym is always difficult. Their offense is going to be different, and our communication is going to have to be better and it’s going to be a tall order.

Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 3.
