POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Vinton County Vikings took a trip to Pomeroy to take on the Meigs Marauders for a scrappy battle to obtain the TVC-Ohio title. This Vikings team had something to prove as this would be their third TVC-Ohio title in a row. The Marauders gave VC a run for their money, but the Vikings took home a hard-fought victory 47-37.

The first quarter began with an electric performance from the Marauders. Although the Vikings showcased strong defense, they could not finish from the field. A hyped-up student section and aggressive style of play for Meigs resulted in a 14-5 lead for the Marauders concluding the first.

Things finally began to pick up for the VC squad in the second quarter as they began to see results thanks to the relentless effort of Garrett Brown and Cobra Sharp. Heading into halftime Brown acquired 10 points to carry the Vikings to a 1-point deficit, wrapping up the first half 18-17 with Meigs still leading.

Due to riled up fans and a spillage on the court, halftime took much longer than normal. Emotions were high in the gym and players had to stretch extra-long, which threw off the momentum of the Marauders. The second the third quarter began, the look of revenge was smothered all over the faces of the Vikings. These boys came out ready to fight back and quickly took their first lead of the game. The Marauders were scrambling and started to turn the ball over nearly every other possession, which gave Vinton County a great chance to capitalize. The Vikings went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter to head into the fourth quarter 29-22.

This momentum had the Vikings absolutely rolling, and the Marauders couldn’t put a halt to their gritty effort. Garrett Brown slammed and shut the door on Meigs to conclude this game and led his team to a victory with 22 points. Vinton County held their heads high as they took home their third consecutive TVC-Ohio title defeating the Meigs Marauders 47-37.

Garrett Brown talked about their upcoming game against the Wellston Golden Rockets that will tip off this upcoming Friday. Brown has confidence in his team that this momentum will lead them to another victory if they keep up a calm but confident mindset. Brown, along with Sharp and Head Coach NJ Kight, are ready to claim an undefeated conference title concluding their game on Friday.

The Vinton County Vikings will hit the road on Friday to take on the Wellston Golden Rockets at 7:30 pm. A victory for the Vikings will leave them with their first undefeated TVC-Ohio title.
