Scioto Valley Conference (SVC) Preview

Unioto Shermans
The Unioto Shermans ended last season atop the SVC in dominant fashion, going undefeated in the conference and earning their first title in 25 years. However, their playoff run was abruptly cut short after a tough first round loss to the Urbana Hillclimbers.
This season, they’ll look to bounce back after that rough ending. “We’ve got a lot to fix and to grow if we want to be able to compete with those type of teams, and that’s what we’ve been focused on this offseason.” Head coach Matt Hoops said.
The Shermans will start their season with a week one matchup against the Vinton County Vikings at home.
Zane Trace
The Zane Trace pioneers finished second in the SVC last year with their only conference loss coming from the Unioto Shermans. They made it to week two of the playoffs after a win against Madison but couldn’t get the job done against Purcell Martin.
This season, they’ll look to improve the conference record and make a run at the title. Their season will start with a home matchup against Logan Elm.
Paint Valley
Rounding out the big three of the SVC is the Paint Valley Bearcats. They ended the season 5-2 in the conference, with losses to both Unioto and Zane Trace. They made it past the first round of the playoffs but fell short against Cincinnati Country Day.
With Braylon Robertson entering his senior season, the Bearcats will look to shake up the SVC.
They’ll get started at Blanchester for week one.
Westfall
The Westfall Mustangs followed the Bearcats last season, ending with a record of 4-3 in the conference and 6-5 overall. They ended their season with a loss in week one of the playoffs against Valley View, only picking up 7 points.
In 2022, they ended with a record of 2-8 overall, and if the team continues to improve and scoop up more conference wins, they may be able to make a dent in the conference standings.
They’ll face Madison Plains at home to start the season.
Piketon
The Piketon Redstreaks finished with a conference record of 3-4, falling to the fifth spot in the conference. They started last season with a strong four game win streak, but picked up three losses in a row once conference play began.
If the Redstreaks can repeat the win streak and keep up momentum into conference play this season, they may find themselves higher in the rankings once this season wraps up.
They’ll travel to Northwest for their week one matchup.
Adena
The Adena Warriors only picked up two wins last season and found themselves at sixth in the conference standings. With four losses between each win, this team is looking to get something going in the upcoming season.
They’ll welcome McClain for their first week matchup.
Huntington
The Huntington Huntsmen came away with only one win last season, which they undoubtedly will look to improve. The previous year, the Huntsmen finished with a record of 5-6, showing that this team can get on the board when they need to.
With plenty of change in the conference, Huntington may find some opportunities to capitalize on and move up in the conference rankings.
They’ll start the season against East Clinton.
Southeastern
The Southeastern Panthers have ended the last two seasons with just one win, and none in the conference. They’ll have an uphill battle this season, with a tough schedule ahead. If they can find ways to improve on both sides of the ball, this could be a team to watch this year.
They’ll begin the season with an away game against the East Tartans.
