NELSONVILLE, OH – The Ohio Valley Emmy Award-nominated Sycamore Sessions returns Tuesday for its ninth season, presenting 12 performances from both rising stars and veteran musicians filmed at the Nelsonville Music Festival’s Creekside Stage. The series is available exclusively at woub.org/culture and new episodes will be released on a semi-regular basis through February.

Audiences can look forward to performances by rising talents like composer and finger-style guitarist Yasmin Williams, as well as well-established names like “freak-folk” pioneer and longtime Nelsonville Music Festival staple Michael Hurley.

The Sycamore Sessions are a collaboration between the Nelsonville Music Festival, Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication’s School of Media Arts and Studies, and WOUB Public Media. The videos are produced by Media Arts and Studies students under the guidance of Director Andie Walla, Host Josh Antonuccio, WOUB Producers Nathan Cain and Emily Votaw, and personnel from Stuart’s Opera House and the Nelsonville Music Festival.

From operating cameras to sound engineering and post-production, students rotate through a variety of production roles, learning how to navigate the pressures of live event recording.

“Being part of the creative process in a live environment can be stressful but very rewarding,” Walla said. “Our intimate performance atmosphere at the Creekside stage is something I’m honored to share with the world through our series.”

WOUB’s Arts and Culture Reporter Emily Votaw highlighted the significance of the Sycamore Sessions as a platform for student development and community engagement.

“It’s not easy for young media professionals to gain meaningful experience in this industry and taking part in a project like this sets students up for success,” said Votaw.

“The Sycamore Sessions exemplify the close working relationship between WOUB and students, resulting in top-tier professional development and high-quality content for our audiences,” added WOUB Audio Supervisor Nathan Cain.

“The Creekside stage creates such indelible moments for fans, and capturing those moments for the series is a privilege,” said Antonuccio.
