ATHENS, OH – Students from WOUB and across the Scripps College of Communication had the opportunity to be interviewed by job recruiters from seven different media organizations during the 2024-25 WOUB Job Connection Program. WBNS 10 TV, joined recruiters from TEGNA, Gray Television, the E.W. Scripps Company, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Griffin Media and NBC 4 TV in Columbus to interview students for full-time jobs and internships at the end of October and early November.

The WOUB Job Connection Program was created by two former WOUB students, Doug Drew, BSC ‘78 and Mike Rausch, a non-degree journalism alumnus. It leverages the relationships of former WOUB students in the media industry to build partnerships between WOUB, the Scripps College and media companies looking for graduating college students to fill journalism and media production positions at their stations across the country.

“[The interviews] provided me feedback in different roles, which is awesome to have because you get a professional opinion,” said Parker Kopronica, a junior journalism news and information major. “Having those opinions is really nice when it comes to cultivating relationships.”

Approximately 90% of the Ohio University graduates who worked at WOUB over the last two years and were looking to find jobs in the media industry had full-time job offers before graduation.

Harshita Singhania, a junior in the Honors Tutorial College, agrees that hearing feedback from the interviewers is important. The recruiters review reels, conduct mock interviews, and give notes to the students.

“I take all of the notes they gave me, and I try to implement it in what I do at WOUB,” said Singhania. “It’s always a great opportunity to learn and put ourselves out there in the real world, even while studying in the bubble of this program.”

The recruiters come to campus once during the fall semester to interview students primarily for summer internship opportunities and then again in the spring to interview graduating seniors for full-time positions.

“It was our pleasure to be involved,” said NBC 4 Columbus News Director Denise Eck. “It was fantastic. The students were amazing.”
