Danville Blue Devils ground Miller Falcons in playoff showdown
< < Back toTHORNVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – Paul Culver Jr. Stadium saw an important Week 13 playoff game between the Miller Falcons and Danville Blue Devils.
The Miller Falcons started the game off with the ball and started piecing together a drive. The Falcons were unable to make their way far into Danville territory. The Blue Devils took the ball and moved down the field but were blocked from making a house call. The Falcons forced a turnover on downs and got the ball set up for their next drive.
The two teams battled to make it into each other’s territories. Both defenses were suffocating. Miller could not get anything generated on the ground, having to rely on the air to move downfield. The Falcons were stopped around their 40-yard line, when a muffed punt at the end of the first quarter allowed them to recover the ball in Blue Devil territory.
The Falcons could not capitalize on the punt recovery, and were forced to punt again. The Blue Devils got a hand on the ball and blocked the punt, before they scooped it up and walked it in to get on the board. Danville missed the field goal, starting off the second quarter up 6-0.
Miller’s defense knocked the ball out, and recovered Danville’s fumble but Danville smothered them and stopped them from moving. The Blue Devils took the ball on their next drive and after a big run to put them on Miller’s 28-yard line, Danville quarterback Jacob Hoffman used his legs to sneak in for the Blue Devils second touchdown of the game. Running Back Cyren Wallace punched in the two-point conversion to put Danville up 14-0 going into halftime.
Danville started the second half off with the ball and pushed their way into the endzone, and followed up with another two-point conversion to put them up 22-0 early in the third quarter. Miller took the ball back, and quarterback Logan Doughty caught Nick Thompson with an open look to put the Falcons on the board. The Falcons tried a two-point conversion, but missed it.
The score was 22-6 in the third quarter.
When the Blue Devils got the ball back, Danville handed the ball off to Cyren Wallace, who took the ball 70 yards and into the endzone. Danville set the ball up for a two-point conversion and slipped in to put them up 30-6. Miller could not get into the endzone for the rest of the game.
On Danville’s next drive, they managed to quickly march down the field and Aidan Burke took the ball in, and got the two-point conversion again. The Blue Devils led 38-6. The Falcons tried getting into the endzone but were stopped on fourth down. The Blue Devils got the ball back and Cyren Wallace took it in for his third touchdown of the night.
The two-point conversion was punched in and put the Danville Blue Devils up 46-6 over the Miller Falcons to end the game.
The Danville Blue Devils will meet the second-seeded Beaver Eastern Eagles next week.
