SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WOUB) – #1 Ironton took on #14 Wheelersburg for the Division V Region 19 final on Friday, November 22. These two teams are no strangers to each other, as they last clashed in week one this season.

In week one Ironton handed Wheelersburg a 37-7 loss, so this underdog Pirates team entered this game with even more to prove.

On the Tiger’s opening drive, Shaun Terry took the short pass from the quarterback Brayden Schreck for a twenty-yard receiving touchdown six minutes into the game.

On Ironton’s next drive, Terry struck again for the Tigers. Terry took the screen pass fifty-three yards for his second touchdown of the night, putting the Tigers up 14-0.

On Wheelersburg’s next offensive drive, their momentum was cut short by Ironton defensive back Josh Johnson. Johnson intercepted Pirates quarterback Braylon Rucker and weaved past a swarm of defenders to take it to the house for a touchdown.

The Tigers dominated the first quarter, up 21-0 at the end of it. Their offense was unstoppable in this game, and they only had one drive where they came up without any points.

In the second quarter, Ironton slowed their offensive tempo and chewed most of the clock. Schreck dove for the endzone and punched it in himself to put Ironton up 28-0 halfway through the second quarter.

Terry caught a forty-one-yard bomb from Schreck with about nine seconds left in the second quarter to put the team up 34-0 going into halftime. Terry had three touchdowns on the night.

Ironton continued to dominate in the second half and thwarted any signs of offensive momentum for Wheelersburg. Tyler Carmon picked off backup quarterback Jack Doerr’s pass and took it to the house in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter to put the Tigers up 55-0.

#1 Ironton would win the game 55-0 and defeat their rival for the second time this season. They will play Region 20’s winner, #2 West Liberty Salem, in the state semi-final next week.

#14 Wheelersburg’s underdog postseason stint ends here and earned Region 5 Division 19 runner-up.
