Trimble ends Southern’s winning streak
< < Back toRACINE, Ohio (WOUB) – In a back-and-forth battle, the Trimble Tomcats (3-1, 2-0 TVC-Hocking) ended the Southern Tornadoes’ (3-1, 0-1 TVC-Hocking) winning streak, winning 39-34.
The quarter was a defensive slog that ended with a 10-6 Southern lead. The second quarter looked like it would be the same. However, with 40 seconds left in the quarter, Ryland Fouts sunk the first 3-pointer of the game to give Trimble their first lead. McKensie Eing provided an additional scoring punch, scoring 8 points in the first half. This new life gave Trimble a 17-16 lead at halftime.
However, during the 3rd quarter, the Southern Tornadoes began to take over. Thanks to three 3-pointers, including two from Jaylynn Hupp, the Tornadoes took a 28-22 lead at the end of the quarter, their largest lead of the game.
During the 4th quarter, Trimble began to pull closer thanks to two critical 3-pointers by Fouts. Then, with 3:26 left in the quarter and the game, Southern’s Payton Kranyik committed her fifth foul of the game, fouling out. This sent Fouts to the free throw line. Fouts converted both shots to give Trimble the lead for good. A final basket from Eing and four more free throws sealed the game for the Tomcats.
The Trimble offense was led by Ryland Fouts with 15 points, including 4 free throws, and McKensie Eing, who scored 13. The Tomcats did well at the free throw line, shooting 75% from the stripe as a team.
Jaylynn Hupp led the Southern offense with 13 points, including seven in the 3rd quarter. Nevaeh Camp led the way early with 6 points in the 1st quarter and 9 total.
Coming their first loss of the season, Southern will play a non-conference game against Clay (1-1) on December 7th.
Meanwhile, the Trimble Tomcats look to go to 3-0 in the TVC-Hocking when they play Waterford (2-0, 1-0 TVC-Hocking) on December 12th.
