The Eastern Boys have finished the week off ending a four game losing streak. On January 21st the Eagles looking to rebound from an overtime loss to rivals Southern, faced out of conference opponent, Point Pleasant. The Eagles lost by ten in a game of runs, 76-66. In this game Eastern started slow, clawed back, and then lost rhythm in the fourth quarter. Three days later, on January 24th, the Eagles traveled outside the nest to Trimble to matchup with the Tomcats. Eastern picked up a must needed resounding 62-49 victory. Derrick Barnes and Gavin Murphy were pivotal in this game as they both posted 18 points. The Eagles enter a three game road stretch this week as they will play Waterford, Caldwell, and Federal Hocking.

The Waterford boys have found their footing as the season has progressed. The Wildcats won two more games this week to extend their winning streak to three. To start the week, their game against Caldwell was rescheduled due to the weather. During the triple-header against Trimble, the boys muscled their way to a narrow 49-46 victory behind outstanding performances by sophomores Reese Lang and Gavin Heiner. It was Waterford’s fourth consecutive game ending within four or fewer points. On Saturday, the Wildcats cruised to a 67-33 rout over the Parkersburg Central Catholic Crusaders. It was the young team’s largest margin of victory this year.

Now, Waterford prepares for a week of conference challenges. First, a rescheduled game against the Federal Hocking Lancers, the first time the teams have met since the Lancers eliminated the Wildcats from the state tournament. They will play on Tuesday. Next, on Friday, Waterford faces the team above them in the standings, the Eastern Eagles. With the Wildcats gaining momentum, there is plenty of time for the young Waterford squad to ascend the ranks of the conference.
