POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Eastern Eagles traveled to Pomeroy to face the Meigs Marauders in a TVC battle. The eagles did not come to play around, beating the Marauders 55-17.
The Eastern Eagles and the Meigs Marauders were both looking for their second win of the season, coming into this game. Both teams have faced challenges this season. Meigs team is young and lacks experience in fast-paced varsity play. While Eastern has fought through barely having enough players to compete.
Despite the changes the eagles have faced Coach Simpson expressed how proud he is of his team.
“It doesn’t matter who we’re facing, the girls come out and they play as hard as they can.”
The first quarter started out slow and the first point wasn’t scored until 3 and a half minutes
into the game. The Marauders weren’t making any shots the first quarter and dug
themselves into a hole early. However, both teams struggled on offense racking up eight
turnovers all together after the first quarter.
Meigs was unable to put any points on the board. Eagles ahead 11-0.
Moving into the second quarter, Brae’lynn Hubbard put the first point on the board for the Marauders. Meigs had trouble grabbing rebounds which led to multiple second-chance shots for Eastern. The eagles had no problem with shooting in the paint but couldn’t land their three-point shots.
The Marauders fought hard to make a few more buckets, and the second quarter ended 30-8 eagles.
Going into the third quarter, Braelen Simpson asserted her dominance as the tallest player on the court by far. Simpson had 20 points and 14 rebounds on the night. The Marauders continued to have a hard time finishing but had no issues keeping the ball moving on offense. The third quarter ended 42-12 Eagles.
Eastern started to show signs of fatigue advancing into the fourth quarter. The eagles only had two subs the whole game. Makenzie Robertson led Eastern on defense with seven total steals. In the end, the Eastern Eagles left Pomeroy with the win. Beating the Marauders 55-17.
A win this big, gives the Eagles confidence and monument as the head towards the end of their season. Eastern hosts the Southern Tornadoes in the nest on Thursday at 7pm.
