
TVC-Ohio Standings: Two conference champions are crowned heading into tournament play

This week in the Ohio, Meigs’ boys take home their first conference title since 1987. Athens girls clinched back-to-back championships. Vinton County and Nelsonville-York boys’ rematch after an 80-76 thriller earlier in the season.
TVC-Ohio Boys’ Standings

The Meigs Marauders have kept rolling through their schedule with three games last week. They began with a home matchup with the Alexander Spartans on Tuesday and won 70-49. Then, they went to Bidwell to face the River Valley Raiders on Friday and came out with a commanding victory 92-50. They wrapped up their week back at home against Westfall and topped the Mustangs 77-68.
Meigs clinched the TVC-Ohio title for the first time since 1987 with their win over River Valley on Friday. They will wrap up the regular season with a matchup at home against Athens and a road game at Nelsonville-York.

The Vinton County Vikings powered through a three-game slate last week. They started off the week by hosting the Athens Bulldogs on Tuesday, with the Vikings winning that tense matchup 52-47. Vinton County followed that win up with a trip to Nelsonville-York on Friday to take on the Buckeyes, losing 69-49. They followed up the game with Nelsonville-York with a trip to face off against New Hope Christian Academy Saturday, taking a close win 65-62.
The Vikings look to round out their season with McClain Tuesday, before hosting their final conference opponent in Wellston on Friday. Vinton County looks to end their season with a game against Zane Trace on Saturday.

The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes snapped a two-game losing streak with victories against Huntington and Vinton County last week. The Buckeyes 69-49 victory against Vinton County was fueled by a 23-point showing from senior Briant Call, while junior Alec Thompson added 15. This was Nelsonville-York’s first victory against Vinton County in 8 years.
The Buckeyes will wrap up the regular season with their last two conference games against Wellston and Meigs, and finish things out against Federal Hocking on Saturday.

This week, the Athens Bulldogs had a stretch of three games, two of which were against the Wellston Golden Rockets. Their first game against Wellston was on Monday night, where they fell 50-35. They later traveled to Vinton County for a matchup with the boys, which ultimately resulted in another Bulldog lost 52-47, but the team was able to return home for a rematch against the Golden Rockets, who were unable to defeat the Bulldogs, giving Athens another much needed 62-45 TVC-Ohio win heading into the final week of their regular season.
They’ll wrap things up next week with games against Logan on Monday, Meigs on Tuesday, and their final regular season game will be a rematch with cross-town rival Alexander on Friday.
T5. Alexander Spartans | 6-14 (Conf. 3-7)

Alexander had two games this past week. Tuesday, they traveled to Meigs and were defeated 70-49.
Saturday, they hosted Eastern but fell short 54-59 in an intense and physical game. Senior Mason Morris dropped 28 points despite the loss.
The Spartans host River Valley on Tuesday, a team they beat in overtime earlier this season, and will make the short drive to Athens to finish the regular season on Friday.
T5. Wellston Golden Rockets | 4-16 (Conf. 3-7)

Wellston picked up their third conference win on Monday, defeating Athens 50-35.
The next day, the Golden Rockets fell in a close one to River Valley 60-56, and on Friday, Athens got their revenge from earlier in the week.
Wellston will host Nelsonville-York on Tuesday, and travel to Vinton County to close out the regular season on Friday.

The Raiders snapped a 17-game losing streak against Wellston this past Tuesday, winning 60-56. On Friday, they welcomed Meigs to Bidwell, but were outmatched and defeated 90-52.
River Valley has just one game left before the regular season comes to a close Tuesday against the Alexander Spartans, who they took to overtime earlier in the season.
TVC-Ohio Girls’ Standings

The Athens Lady Bulldogs were able to bring home the TVC-Ohio title for the second year in a row after wrapping up the regular season this week. Their first game against Vinton County resulted in a dominant 62-33 win helped by some standout Bulldog defense.
That win clinched a share of the title for the Lady Bulldogs, but they were still searching for an outright title when they hosted the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes on Thursday night. Senior 1000-point scorer Asa Holcombe was honored for senior night, and sophomore Lady Bulldog Brystol Stump led the Bulldogs to their title with her 17-point performance. Athens reclaimed the title with their 62-40 win over the Buckeyes and moved on to host Circleville for one final game of their regular season. The Bulldogs fell to Circleville last year in the tournament, and that trend continued with another 51-39 loss.
Luckily this matchup wasn’t part of the tournament this season, and the Bulldogs will have a chance to bounce back in their first-round matchup against Chillicothe on Wednesday.

The Spartans had a busy week, playing four games in a six-day stretch. Monday, they beat Nelsonville-York 52-39 in a game that showcased how strong the Spartan defense can be.
Tuesday and Thursday, Alexander defeated Meigs, and the week was capped off with a 42-37 win over Warren on Saturday.
The Spartans finished second in the TVC-Ohio, one spot up from last season.
All season long, Head Coach Morgan Grinstead has emphasized how important defense is to her squad, and they’ll look to continue that defensive intensity on Thursday against Southeastern when the Spartans will begin their push in the Division V state tournament.

River Valley had just one game this past week, where they beat Wellston 58-26. They finished 9-3 in TVC-Ohio play for the second straight season.
The Raiders earned the 9-seed in Division V Southeast and will play host to Rock Hill on Thursday.

The Vinton County Lady Vikings had a tough stretch to end their regular season. Falling 62-33 against Athens on Monday, then taking both games against Wellston before ending their season with a home matchup against the Trimble Tomcats, with the Vikings taking that matchup 56-42. The team ended 4th in the TVC-Ohio.
This team ended it’s season on a three-game win streak looking towards the tournament and are the 11th-seed in their district and look to face off against the 6th –seeded South Point Pointers in South Point on Wednesday.

The Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes closed the curtain on their regular season and finished 5th in the conference, one place behind from last year.
While the girls did finish the regular season on a three-game losing streak, Head Coach Mark Truax told us he is excited for the playoffs. The Lady Buckeyes were seeded 11th in their district and will face the 6-seeded Ripley Union on Thursday.

The Wellston Golden Rockets had three in-conference games to close out the season, but dropped all three of them.
Wellston enters tournament play as a 20-seed and will travel to 5-seeded North Adams Thursday as they begin their push in the Division V state tournament.

The Lady Marauders had a full slate last week playing four games. They began with a matchup at home against the Eastern Lady Eagles and they fell 55-17. They played the next day against Alexander and lost 50-10 to the Spartans. On Thursday, they played Alexander again on the road and were defeated 52-22. They played in their regular season finale traveling to Belpre on Saturday where the Golden Eagles came out on top 75-13.
Meigs will begin tournament play this week at Minford on Thursday.
