Minford, Ohio (WOUB) – The Federal Hocking Lady Lancers faced off against the Minford Lady Falcons in an exciting matchup on Monday night. Despite their best efforts, the Lancers came up short, losing 55-62 in a hard-fought game.

At the start of the game, both teams were evenly matched. It was a back-and-forth battle with multiple fouls for both teams, but strong defense kept the scoring low. Minford ended the quarter with a slight lead, 16-12.

In the second quarter, Federal Hocking struggled with their shooting, missing several three-pointers, while Minford scored off of multiple steals. The Lady Falcons’ offense was strong, thus helping stretch their lead as they scored 20 points in the quarter. At the half, Minford held a 36-22 advantage.

After returning back out to the court after the half, Federal Hocking came out ready to battle. During their time in the locker room, Coach Cottrill said they talked about “having a little bit of pride in what we do; playing hard, getting after it, rebounding the basketball and playing defense.” This talk seemed to inspire the Lancers, as their defense was impressive and they brought the score back below a 10 point difference. Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was 48-41, with the Falcons still ahead.

The final quarter had everyone on the edge of their seats, with both teams fighting their hardest until the end. Federal Hocking brought the game to a tie with a score of 55-55 and eventually pulled ahead.  Despite the Lancers’ lead, Minford’s offense came out on top once more. In the end, the Falcons took the win with a final score of 62-55.

Federal Hocking will learn from their mistakes in the first half and prepare to head into the District Semifinals at Southeastern High School next Monday. Minford will play against Meigs High School this Thursday at 7:00 p.m., looking for another win.
