CORNING, Ohio (WOUB) — The Trimble Tomcats (4-16, 2-7 TVC-Ohio) hit the road Tuesday night to play the Miller Falcons (6-13, 5-7 MSL-Cardinal). It was a back-and-forth brawl, but the Tomcats prevailed to win 53-51.

Right after tipoff, it was all Miller, starting on an 8-0 run with their first two scores coming from Freshmen Bo Dorsey and Junior Nick Thompson both hitting a three-point shot, plus back-to-back free throws from Senior Logan Doughty. Trimble wasn’t going down that easy, answering back with a three-pointer of their own from Sophomore Hunter Brandeberry which gave them some momentum before the end of the first quarter, Miller up 13-12.

The Tomcats kept this energy going into the second, as they dominated the quarter in a shootout. Sophomore Brady Jajczyk led the way and had his best quarter of the whole game making both two jump shots and three-pointers. Falcons Junior Bryce Dorsey had his highest scoring quarter with 7 points, but it wasn’t enough before half, as Trimble went into the locker room up 31-26.

Start of the third, Miller looked to steal Trimble’s energy and use it against them, as Doughty drove into the paint, missed the layup, then got the putback to silence the Trimble sideline. Brandeberry wasn’t letting this one slip away as right after getting the ball back and unleashed his inner Steph Curry, hitting another three to make his presence known. Their strategy of excellent passing kept the Falcons on their toes and set up Brandeberry and Jajczyk to make those big shots, helping them end the quarter on top 45-40.

Fourth quarter, the Falcons looked to end it early, clashing with the high passing Tomcats and got a big steal from Doughty who turned it into a nasty layup, which was preceded with a rebound to jump shot from Bo Dorsey to give them the lead 47-45. Free throw from Doughty made it into a two-possession game. With time running out, Brandeberry did what he does best and nailed a crucial three, putting out the spark in the Falcons and their student section, taking home the win 53-51.

“Just shoot the ball. Be confident in yourself”, said Brandeberry when asked after the game what was going through his mind in the last moments of the game.

The Tomcats look to ride this momentum into Friday, as they will Face the Federal Hocking Lancers at home for their final regular season game.
