WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WOUB) — The Lady Eagles (2-12) took a trip to Portsmouth West to take on the Senators (12-10) for the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

Portsmouth West came out with conviction. Fast ball movement was the key, the Senators found some early weaknesses in the Eastern defense and took advantage early.

On the other hand, for Eastern, turnovers hindered the offensive production. The senators forced 10 turnovers in the first quarter alone.

Portsmouth west found themselves in a comfortable spot gaining a 19-7 lead going into the second quarter.

A big reason the Eagles couldn’t get anything going offensively was due to the full court press coming from the Senators. Eastern saw themselves struggling to get the ball up the floor.

The Senators stopped the full court press but continued to trap at half court. Which seemed to do the job. Eastern still had troubles getting past the formation. Continuing their lack in scoring production.

The Senators showcased exceptional post defense. Stopping prime scorer for the Eagles, Brae Simpson. Making it extra hard for Eastern to compete.

Simpson would find some buckets down low but not nearly enough to stay in the game. At the end of the first half the Eagles trailed 31-15.

Brayleigh Pistole was shooting lights out for the Senators. Dropping 18 points by the third quarter she outscored the Eagles 15 at the time.

Eastern got more shots up in the third quarter but they couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities.

The Senators went on a 21-0 run in the third quarter. Extending their lead 52-15.

In the 3rd quarter the score differential was 26 points from the Senators and 2 points from the Eagles.

At this point, Portsmouth West was dominating in all aspects of the game. By the end, the Senators won 61-24. Ending the Eagles season at (2-13).
