ATHENS, OH – Alex Imwalle, a senior studying journalism and sports management in the Honors Tutorial College, is excited to start his career journey after graduating from Ohio University this May. Imwalle hopes to use what he learned during his time in Athens to pursue a career in investigative reporting in Columbus, OH.
“I chose Ohio University because of the vast number of resources for journalism students,” Imwalle said. “Whether it was in class or on my own time, I had the opportunity to jump into every area of the journalism industry headfirst. I couldn’t have made a better decision. I instantly joined several student organizations that advanced my writing, broadcast and overall communication skills.”
Imwalle works as an anchor and a reporter for WOUB TV’s nightly newscast, NewsWatch. “I started at WOUB later into my college career than most, but it was such a smooth transition because of the amount of help I got from my peers.”
In addition to his experience at WOUB, Imwalle says Ohio University has not only challenged him academically, but professionally.
“My favorite college memory is my first Homecoming on campus. I was astounded by the amount of school pride this alumni network has. I remember how excited it made me to embark on my journey at Ohio University after hearing such amazing stories from those who attended the school before me. Each year at Homecoming, I am reminded of how lucky I am to go to Ohio University.”
As he looks to life after Athens, Imwalle has this advice for incoming freshman.
“The best advice I can give freshmen is to never turn down any opportunity that could advance your professional experience,” says Imwalle. “Network early and often, and don’t let the fact that you are new to college and your industry scare you away from saying yes to your first work opportunity or experience.”
