Portsmouth claims Division V Southeast 2 district title

WAVERLY, Ohio (WOUB) – Portsmouth took down Alexander 58-24 in the district final.   

Alexander came into the district final after beating Huntington 62-55.  The No. 7- seeded Spartans took on No. 1-seed Portsmouth Trojans in the district final.   

Portsmouth defeated Piketon 62-42 in the district semifinals on Monday.  The Trojans came into this game 22-1 on the season.   

Portsmouth jumped ahead in the first quarter.  They held a 19-7 lead after the first, thanks to Sienna Allen.  Allen had 13 points, while teammate Keke Woods added six.  The Portsmouth defense forced seven turnovers in the quarter, a few of which led to scores.   

Portsmouth continued to expand their lead in the second.  They held a 35-12 lead going into the break.  Woods and Allen each had 13 points, leading the Trojans offensively.  Allen also came away with six rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  Kayden Bean led Alexander with six points, all coming from behind the arc.   

The Trojans put up another dominant period.  They held Alexander to only three points in the quarter and forced numerous turnovers.  Portsmouth led 49-15 after the end of the quarter.   

Portsmouth went on to win 58-24, capturing a district championship.  Keke Woods finished with 19 points, five assists and four steals.  Sienna Allen added 17 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and six steals.  KK Mays had 11 points and six rebounds.   

Bean led Alexander with nine points.  Ryder followed up with seven points and three rebounds.   

Portsmouth moves on to take on the winner of East district 1 in the regional semifinals.  Alexander finishes their season with a 17-8 record, while also going 10-2 in-conference.
