WOUB Senior Spotlight: Maddie Kiefer
< < Back toBy Annabelle Dilts
ATHENS, OH – Maddie Kiefer doesn’t graduate until May, but she already has a job lined up and is ready to follow her dream. The journalism news and information major has accepted a Multimedia Journalist position with KPAX-TV in Missoula, Montana. The position allows her to fulfill two major career goals: telling impactful community stories and living in the Rocky Mountains.
“I owe a huge thank you to WOUB Public Media for its hands-on approach to student journalism, equipping me with the skills and confidence to step into this next chapter.”
Kiefer grew up in Manassas, Virginia and chose Ohio University for its vibrant campus atmosphere, strong journalism program, and family legacy—both her mother and aunt are proud Ohio University graduates.
“Being able to combine my passion for sports with community engagement has been the most rewarding part of my work at WOUB,” Kiefer shared. “I love telling stories that matter to people and connecting with the community through journalism.”
Throughout her time in Athens, Kiefer has taken on multiple leadership roles within WOUB Public Media. She served as the TVC-Hocking lead reporter for Gridiron Glory, an Alexander High School lead reporter for Hardwood Heroes, and a lead reporter covering Ohio University Women’s Soccer and Men’s Hockey. Additionally, Kiefer has been a sports anchor on WOUB TV’s NewsWatch for the past two and a half years. In each of these roles, she has led teams to cover local sports and deliver compelling stories to the public.
Kiefer has this advice for incoming freshmen. “Get involved early, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and seize every opportunity. Whether it’s on-air work, technical skills, producing, or directing—every experience will help shape your career and make you a well-rounded journalist.”
