Jessica Mount faces one felony charge of theft in office and two misdemeanor charges of soliciting improper compensation and dereliction of duty.

Mount served as clerk role for the Nelsonville Police Department and the Mayor’s Court from November 2021 to December 2022.

The Ohio Auditor of State’s Special Investigation Unit received a complaint in April 2023 about Mount allegedly stealing city funds. An investigation found receipts for about $5,000 worth of cash payments. The payments were not deposited into a city bank account.

This is not the first time Mount has faced criminal charges related to her work for the city.

In March 2023, Mount pled guilty in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas to two counts of unauthorized use of an Ohio law enforcement database.

Mount then completed community service for the Athens County Empowerment diversion program. She was also ordered to pay $600 to the program.

Mount is scheduled for arraignment in the Athens County Court of Common Pleas on July 9.
