STEWART, Ohio (WOUB) — The Belpre Golden Eagles (1-1) came to Stewart in Week 2 trying to get their first win of the season, as the Federal Hocking Lancers (1-1) looked to keep their offensive hot streak alive and stay undefeated. Ultimately, it would be Belpre coming away 34-6 victors.
The Golden Eagles’ offense started hot, but the Lancers’ defense would step up as junior DL Jason Harness would come up huge with a 2-yard tackle for loss for a turnover on downs. It was all Golden Eagles from then on.
Belpre would run a jet sweep reverse to junior RB Alex Parker for a 33-yard touchdown to make the score 6-0. Golden Eagles QB Carson Woodfard would later find WR Malaki Ensor for a 26-yard score, putting the Golden Eagles up 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Following a huge 49-yard run by junior WR Braeden Hill, the Lancers seemed to figure out the offense going into the second. This was put to a halt as the Eagles squandered the Lancers’ fourth-and-goal attempt. Belpre would then respond with a 14-yard rushing touchdown by junior QB Malik Currie. On the ensuing drive, Currie would intercept the ball and set the Eagles up on the 18-yard line. With the first half winding down, Federal Hocking freshman WR Adler Beha would snag a sideline interception going into halftime, the Golden Eagles led 20-0.
Federal Hocking would receive the ball first in the second half, but the offense still could not get past Belpre’s defense. A quick punt for the Lancers would turn into a huge return for Currie, which set up the Eagles in excellent scoring position. Currie would then find Ensor wide open on a corner route for a 38-yard score. For the rest of the quarter it was defensively back and forth until Woodford would find the end zone again extending the lead to 34-0.
The fourth quarter started with a running clock as both teams traded possessions. Federal Hocking would put together a final drive that would end in freshman Tristyn Bowers finding the end zone, making the final score 34-6.
The Eagles offense was rolling all game long as they had four different players find the end zone. The defense was able to make numerous stops keeping the Lancers offense off the field.
Looking ahead, Belpre will look to keep their winning streak alive next Friday against the Alexander Spartans (1-1). As Federal Hocking looks to get back in the win column against Millersport (0-2).
