Buckeyes steamroll their way to a dominant victory against Hornets

NELSONVILLE, OHIO (WOUB) — The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes hosted their home opener in an in-conference game against the Coal Grove Hornets. The Buckeyes held the Hornets’ rushing offense in check while their own rushing game led them to a 34-6 win.
The Hornets started the game strong with a long drive that ended in a rushing touchdown by senior RB Caden Turner. At the end of the first quarter, facing a second-and-33, the Buckeyes went for a slant pass that was taken by WR Walker Stone for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, the Hornets started the half forced to punt to the Buckeyes. Nelsonville-York capitalized on that and scored another touchdown through a 37-yard run from senior RB Austin Gautier, who came into the contest averaging 182 yards per game and finished with 149 yards and a touchdown. The Buckeyes scored one more time before halftime on a Cameron Sullivan QB keeper.
The second half started with a Nelsonville-York punt, which Coal Grove returned for a touchdown. However, on a fourth-and-1 on the 6-yard line, the Buckeyes forced a fumble and recovered it to finish the quarter.
The fourth quarter had an electric start as Walker Stone rushed the ball for 80 yards into the end zone to break the game open. The Buckeyes managed to get another fumble recovery and iced the game on a QB keeper by Cameron Sullivan, who dragged defenders with him as he went into the end zone. Nelsonville-York would continue to dominate on defense and ended the game on a kneel.
Nelsonville-York continued its undefeated start to the season, winning another game in dominant fashion. Sullivan had a great game, providing two touchdowns with his legs and one with his arm.
For Coal Grove they fall below .500 on the season with another disappointing loss. However, RB’s Turner and Kaden Murphy were bright spots, especially Turner who had a very successful game rushing.
