ALBANY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Alexander Spartans swept the Meigs Marauders in a three-set victory for youth night.
To open the night Alexander Spartans Ava McCall had four aces to put her team up seven to zero. She ended up having seven kills total overall.
The Marauders had multiple defensive errors which the Spartan’s offensive took advantage with bug plays from Meena Juedes and Lila Moser.
It was not just the Spartan’s offense that played lights out, but their back row also was a force to be reckoned with. Libero Abbi Ohms along with defensive specialist Paige Ashcraft passed dimes all night.
Alexander ended the first set with four kills in a row from Juedes, handing her team the set 25 to 10.

“Build, recover, build, has been a big thing for us.” Hill mentioned. “But now lately we are build, build, recover, build. Recover quicker and build longer is their new mindset.”
In the second set, McCall came out serving again. She started the set with another ace. Meigs’ defense just could not find a groove; however, Libero Marlee Laudermilt tried her best to take control of the back row.
There was only so much Laudermilt could do when there were huge swings from Moser and Maddy Penrod from the outside.
Marauders Outside Mackenzie Smith had some key plays for her team’s offense, and Laudermilt had an ace to hopefully bring their team back. Marauders trail 14 to eight.
Spartans Middle Blocker Macie Hubbard solo stuffed Meigs and then ended the set with a kill. Alexander took the set 25 to 15.
It is only right that the third set started with a McCall ace, and she actually started with two, bringing her team out to a quick five to zero lead.
Meigs Jordin Davenport responded with an ace of her own, along with forcing Alexander to make some simple errors.
For most of this set, Moser was the star of the show. She had huge plays offensively and defensively, along with four aces in a row for the Spartans. Alexander went up 19 to six.
Meigs fought till the very end with a big swing from Ella Vaughn and another ace from Laudermilt.
This energy was not enough for the Marauders, as the Spartans took the final set 25 to 12, after a few errors from Meigs.
Alexander has hopes to keep climbing their mountain, and Juedes shares what they hope to accomplish next.
“When we have a set goal, we really dig in.” Juedes shares. “We are trying to finish our goal and take TVC and then using that to propel us towards Districts.”
Alexander will travel to Waterford on Saturday and Meigs hosts Nelsonville-York tomorrow.
