Ace Nation: Federal Hocking Sweeps Peebles in Straight-Set Tournament Win

STEWART, Ohio (WOUB) The Federal Hocking Lancers started tournament play strong Tuesday night, earning a convincing win over the Peebles Indians in straight sets. 

The first set began with dominance from Federal Hocking. Karlee Grimm came out swinging and landed a solid kill, followed by another from Megan Reichardt, putting the Lancers up four to one.

The set stayed close for a bit before the Lancers found their rhythm. Grimm’s next kill made it 16 to 11, and Federal Hocking closed it out with a 25 to 16 win. 

The second set started just as strong. The Lancers jumped to a four to one lead after a few Peebles’ mistakes, and a big ace from Grimm kept things rolling.  

The Indians rallied late to narrow it to 23 to 14, but the Lancers finished the set 25 to 17 off a block from Reichardt. 

The third set opened the same way, with Federal Hocking taking a four to one lead. Jaycee Peek added an ace to extend it to twelve to four.

The Lancers stayed in control as a double block from Grimm and Ellie Needs pushed the score to seventeen to six, and moments later they teamed up again to make it twenty-two to six. Federal Hocking sealed the match with a twenty-five to seven win to stay alive in the tournament. 

Federal Hocking head coach Ryan Grimm emphasized the win-or-go-home mindset of postseason play, stating, “It’s tournament time, records are off the table, you are playing for your livelihood.” 

Next Wednesday, the Lancers will shift their focus to the Eastern Beavers as they prepare for the second-round tournament play.
