Federal Hocking shuts down Belpre on the road

BELPRE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Federal Hocking Lancers headed to Belpre to face off against the Golden Eagles to begin their TVC-Hocking schedule. With a stifling defense and three players scoring double digits, the Lancers won 56-35.
Federal Hocking has benefited from strong underclassmen play in the past two seasons and the second quarter showcased a potential star this year. Laura Blower started off perfectly from beyond the arc, going three for three. The defense continued to lock down the Golden Eagles and the Lancers led 28-12 at half.
Belpre came out strong in the third hitting a quick two pointer and getting more good looks. Yet the Lancers quickly adjusted to prevent further scoring, ending with a 42-18 lead.
Despite three tough quarters, the Golden Eagles came alive in the fourth quarter. Gracie Bills was able to get some good looks in the paint and began cutting into the lead.
However, Belpre was unable to handle Brenlee Cottrill. They fouled her almost every time she drove into the paint as she finished with 14 points from free throws on 17 attempts.
Coach Amos Cottrill spoke on her ability to get to the line “She’s just so shifty she can play at all three levels which makes her hard to defend.”
Cottrill finished as the leading scorer for the Lancers and led in assists with 22 and 4 respectively. She also finished second in rebounds with nine behind Taylor Snedders’ 10.
Bills led Belpre in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lancers head on the road again on Tuesday to face conference foe Eastern.
