T1. Meigs Marauders | 5-2 (Conf. 2-0)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

The Marauders had two games this week, the first being a very important in-conference battle against Nelsonville-York. Meigs had jumped out to a six-point lead with about two minutes to go in the second, before the Buckeyes went on a big run to end the half. They carried that momentum into the third and held a one-point lead at the end of three quarters to play. Then, Meigs star Carson Davis went on a huge run, scoring 13 points over a stretch from the late third quarter into the middle of the fourth. This led the Marauders to an important 50-44 win. Colbin Buechler was the Marauders’ leading scorer in the contest, scoring 19 points in the win.

As for their second game this week, Meigs took on Padua Franciscan on Saturday. Despite a strong comeback effort late in the game, the Marauders lost by three. In that loss, Davis had 31 points and 11 rebounds.

Meigs remains tied with Vinton County for the top of the Ohio. This upcoming week just features Athens on the schedule.

Their road battles will continue this week, starting Monday against a River Valley team that is 0-3 in conference play. The Vikings will get five days of rest before traveling to South Point on Saturday. These games will be crucial in building confidence and keeping the team undefeated in conference play.

The game stayed close throughout, but Athens pulled away late, shooting 41% from three compared to River Valley’s 16%. Athens followed that with a 60-43 victory over non-conference opponent Amanda Clearcreek on Dec. 20.
