TVC-Ohio Boys’ Standings

1. Meigs Marauders | 6-2 (Conf. 3-0)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

It was a rather light week for the Marauders, as their lone game was against fellow conference opponent Athens on Monday. Meigs took home a ten-point victory, and the squad was led by Owen Tracy and Colben Beucler. Tracy was the team’s leading scorer with 24 in the contest and added five assists. Beucler had 21, five assists and 11 boards on the night. The Marauders remain undefeated in conference play so far this season.

Meigs has three non-conference games upcoming this week. They hit the road on Tuesday to take on Gallia Academy, remain on the road on Friday to take on Marietta and wrap up the week with a neutral-site contest against Waverly. This could be one of the toughest weeks this team will face all season, as the squads have a combined record of 13-8 on the year so far.

2. Wellston Golden Rockets | 6-1 (Conf. 3-1)

Written by: Andrew Woods

Wellston took care of business in their only game this week. The Golden Rockets defeated Nelsonville-York 64-43 to shore up their position in the TVC-Ohio.

The Golden Rockets’ start to the season has been nothing short of historic. Wellston won six of their first seven games this season. The Golden Rockets have not accomplished that feat since at least the 2005-06 season, according to MaxPreps.

Wellston will try to carry the momentum from their strong start into the new year. The Golden Rockets will begin the new year with a game at Piketon on Jan. 3.

3. Vinton County Vikings | 3-4 (Conf. 2-1)

Written by: Ella Hughes

With just one game on the slate this week, the Viking boys looked to bounce back from their overtime loss to Eastern. However, they faced a tough two-game road schedule against River Valley and South Point.

The Vikings struggled against River Valley, earning their first conference loss, 71-67 in overtime. They were unsuccessful in bouncing back against South Point, losing their third in a row, 59-52. With just one game this week, Tuesday against Huntington, the VC boys will look to snap their three-game losing streak.

 T4. Alexander Spartans | 3-5 (Conf. 1-2)

Written by: Joshua Jacob

The Alexander Spartans had a lighter week for the holidays, but they still surged into a tie for fourth due to their break from conference games. They did, however, face the Waterford Wildcats in a Hocking vs. Ohio matchup. The Spartans took care of business, winning the game 65-57.

They will have a heavier load than last week, playing two games out of the conference. They will take a trip to Jackson to face the Jackson Ironmen on Tuesday at 7 p.m., then return home to defend home court against Coal Grove on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.

They will return to conference play on Jan. 6 at home against River Valley.

T4. Athens Bulldogs | 3-4 (Conf. 1-2)

Written by: Luke Schmitt

The Athens Bulldogs fell to the Meigs Marauders 68-58 in their lone matchup of the week on Dec. 22.

Athens held an 18-16 lead with four minutes remaining in the second quarter, but the Marauders pulled ahead after halftime. The Bulldogs battled back to keep the deficit in single digits and cut the lead to 57-51 following a fast-break steal from Wren Ballew with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.

However, Meigs closed out strong, winning on both the scoreboard and stat sheet, outrebounding Athens by 10, recording eight more assists, and shooting at a higher clip.

Athens will open its 2026 campaign at home on Friday, Jan. 2, against Peebles.

6. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 3-3 (Conf. 1-3)

Written by: Sam Nolan

The Buckeyes took a light holiday break from action this week, only facing Wellston Monday night. In that game, there was yet another disappointing showing for Nelsonville-York. The Golden Rockets won this one 64-43. This movesthe Buckeyes down to 1-3 in conference play.

Next week is quite the ramp-up from the last one, however, as Nelsonville-York will have multiple chances to get back on track. It starts with New Lexington on Monday, followed by Eastern on Tuesday and finally Warren on Friday night.

7. River Valley Raiders | 3-4 (Conf. 1-3)

Written by: Andrew Woods

Although River Valley split their games this week, the Raiders got it done when it mattered most. The Raiders began the week with a road trip to Vinton County. In that game, the Raiders took the then-TVC leaders to overtime, then pulled away in the extra frame to take a 71-67 upset win. However, River Valley’s next game was not as exciting as the Raiders fell to Gallia Academy 73-37.

The Raiders will have two games in two days next week. River Valley will host Waterford on Monday before visiting Clay the next day.

TVC-Ohio Girls’ Standings

A short week for the Lady Bulldogs featured an out-of-conference matchup against West Muskingum. Athens defeated the Lady Tornadoes 37-33 in a tightly contested defensive battle. Defense continues to be the key to the team’s success through the midpoint of the season, particularly in non-conference play. In those matchups, the Lady Bulldogs hold a 195-174 scoring advantage.

Athens will host Wellston to open the new year on Jan. 5.

3. Alexander Spartans | 6-3 (Conf. 3-1)

Written by: Katie Bailey

Alexander bounced back from an early-week loss to the Waterford Wildcats with a win over the Jackson Iron Ladies yesterday. The Wildcats defeated the Spartans 48-43, a loss that fueled Alexander’s response in a 58-50 victory over Jackson.

The Spartans have another busy week ahead as they host two games, looking to improve their 6–3 record. Alexander will first welcome the Huntington Huntsmen tomorrow before facing the Logan Elm Braves on Friday.

4. Vinton County Vikings | 6-3 (Conf. 2-2)

Written by: Ella Hughes

It was a lighter week for the Lady Vikings who only had one game against Chillicothe. Vinton County dominated the Cavaliers 60-23 earning their sixth win of the season.

After bouncing back from a disappointing conference loss to Athens, the Lady Vikes have dominated their past two wins. The Vikings have two games slated for this weekend with their first game tomorrow against Zane Trace and their second game Saturday against Gallia Academy.

5. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 3-6 (Conf. 2-3)

Written by: Sam Nolan

The Lady Buckeyes have back-to-back quiet weeks, coming off a one-game, one-loss week against Coal Grove. Madi Pidcock has been one of the best players in the TVC so far for the Buckeyes, averaging 22.9 points per game.

This coming week, the girls will hope to bounce back against Eastern on Monday night.

6. Meigs Marauders | 1-10 (Conf. 1-3)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

Meigs had two games on the schedule this week, one home against Trimble and the other in Warren taking on the Warriors. The team dropped both games, capping off the week with a loss to Trimble 67-52.Despite the loss, improvement was shown again. Last season, Meigs lost to Trimble 61-29. In this year’s game, the Lady Marauders climbed back after Trimble jumped out to an early lead and gave the Tomcats a run late in the third quarter.

This upcoming week for the Lady Marauders is a rest week, with their next game on the schedule coming on Jan. 5 against Alexander. And after that, they get a full week of rest until their contest on Jan. 12 against Wellston.

7. Wellston Golden Rockets | 0-11 (Conf. 0-4)

Written by: Andrew Woods

In their only game this week, Wellston could not snap their long losing streak. The Golden Rockets lost to Paint Valley. That loss extends Wellston’s losing streak to 16 games.

Wellston has no games next week. The Golden Rockets will return to action on Jan. 5 against Athens.
