TVC-Hocking Standings: Southern boys on top of the conference as the Lady Lancers are tied with the Eagles girls

TVC-Hocking Boys’ Standings
1. Southern Tornadoes | 6-2 (Conf. 3-0)

TVC-Hocking leader Southern kept rolling with a pair of blowout wins last week. The Tornadoes knocked off Ravenswood (WV) 71-40 before smashing Crooksville 80-45 at the Mark Porter Spartan Classic at Alexander High School.
The Tornadoes’ wins last week were extra special for head coach Jeff Caldwell. Caldwell tied the school record for wins by a head coach with the win against Ravenswood, then broke the record by beating Crooksville. As of the publication of this article, Caldwell has 326 career wins, including 218 as Southern’s head coach.
Southern will try to make things happen at home this week. The Tornadoes will host Eastern on Friday and St. Joseph Central on Saturday.
2. Belpre Golden Eagles | 6-4 (Conf. 3-1)

Belpre shored up their position in the TVC-Hocking last week. The Golden Eagles earned redemption on the road against Federal Hocking, defeating the Lancers 55-40 to avenge their loss earlier in the season. Belpre’s strong defense prevented any chance of a comeback, as the Golden Eagles held Federal Hocking to only three points in the fourth quarter.
Belpre will look to get another TVC-Hocking win against Waterford on Friday.
T3. Federal Hocking Lancers | 4-6 (Conf. 2-2)

Coming off a week where the Lancers won both their games, Federal Hocking picked up a disappointing result in their only match of the week. After defeating Belpre on the road, the Lancers hosted the Golden Eagles on Monday, losing 55-40. While scoring just two points less than their earlier meeting, Federal Hocking could not contain Belpre’s scoring like they did in round one.
With that result, Federal Hocking sits at 4-6 and 0.500 in TVC-Hocking play. Coach Josh Vernon stresses how wide open the Hocking is, and their quest to win the conference will receive another chapter this week.
The Lancers start their week on Tuesday when they host second in the TVC-Ohio Wellston. Then on Thursday, Federal Hocking will travel to Glouster for a conference rivalry matchup against Trimble.
T3. Waterford Wildcats | 2-8 (Conf. 2-2)

Waterford had a tough week, dropping two nonconference games. The Wildcats fell 52-43 to River Valley before suffering a 58-48 loss to Frontier. In the second matchup, Finn Pennock and Reese Lang led the scoring effort, while Weston Fairchild chipped in eight points of his own.
Waterford will look to bounce back next Friday when they face Belpre, who currently sits second in the conference standings.
5. Eastern Eagles | 4-8 (Conf. 1-2)

The Eagles enter the new year looking to get back in the groove of things. However, the Eagles ended 2025 with a 71-69 loss to cross-TVC opponent Nelsonville-York. Eastern played their first game of 2026 against Fairland in the nest, but the Eagles came up short losing 72-60. This loss puts the Eagles four games back from even.
Eastern will look to claw their way back in the standings with two away games this week. First on Tuesday against the Marietta Tigers, a team sitting atop the TSL, with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Then, the Eagles play the reigning TVC-Hocking champion, the Southern Tornadoes, on Friday.
6. Trimble Tomcats | 3-8 (Conf. 0-4)

It was yet another up and down week for the Trimble boys, who faced two nonconference opponents, winning one game and losing the other.
The Tomcats faced the Millersport Lakers on the road, going into overtime to take home the win, 65-63. The boys then followed that up with a loss in another close match against South Gallia, ending with a final score of 70-65.
Trimble will have a chance at redemption come Friday, as they host the Federal Hocking Lancers, with tipoff set at 7 p.m.
TVC-Hocking Girls’ Standings
T1. Federal Hocking Lancers | 5-4 (Conf. 4-1)

Federal Hocking had a peaceful week not playing any games. As the new year passes and the race to the playoffs and division crown continues to draw closer, the Lancers take this week to refine their game in practice.
Federal Hocking goes back to the court on Thursday when they host the Belpre Golden Eagles for their second meeting of the season. With the conference up for grabs, the Lancers are eager to capture the crown that has evaded them in the previous two seasons.
T1. Eastern Eagles | 7-4 (Conf. 4-1)

The Eagles enter the new year tied atop the TVC-Hocking. The last couple of weeks have been slow as Eastern has only played two games in the last 16 days. In their most recent match on Dec. 29, the Eagles took care of business defeating Nelsonville-York, 54-29. It was the third time that Eastern has held their opponent under 30 points.
Now reaching the heart of the season, the Eagles are in a prime spot to win the conference. They will play three games in four days to kick off 2026, the first being on Jan. 5 against Wahama (WV). On Jan. 6, Eastern will look for revenge against Belpre as they lost 54-43 to the Golden Eagles earlier in the year. Rounding out the week on Jan 8., Eastern will have another important rematch, facing off against Waterford, who they defeated 59-20. All three games will be played on the road.
3. Waterford Wildcats | 6-6 (Conf. 3-2)

The Waterford Girls split their week, falling to Newark Catholic before bouncing back with a 59-41 conference win against Belpre. Brynnlee Pottmeyer led the way with 21 points in the win. Ava Hurley added 10 points while Elsie Malec had nine of her own.
The Wildcats currently sit third in the TVC-Hocking and have a challenging stretch ahead, with Sheridan next, the team that handed them their only loss last season. Then with Eastern, who beat Waterford earlier this year and is currently tied for first in the conference.
T4. Belpre Golden Eagles | 3-9 (Conf. 2-3)

Belpre’s cold stretch continued last week. In their only game of the week, Belpre lost a TVC-Hocking contest to Waterford 59-41. That loss was the Golden Eagles’ fourth in a row.
Belpre will try to end their losing streak this week. The Golden Eagles will host Eastern, who Belpre beat earlier this season, on Tuesday. Belpre will also visit Federal Hocking on Thursday.
T4. Trimble Tomcats | 7-4 (Conf. 2-3)

It was a short, yet productive week for the Trimble girls, as they played only one game, but still were able to take home a win.
On Saturday, the Tomcats hosted the Miller Falcons and proceeded to wipe the floor with their opponent, beating the Falcons by 50 points and ending with a final score of 75-25.
The girls will hopefully take that confidence boost into Monday, as they are scheduled to host the Fisher Catholic Irish, with tipoff at 6:30 p.m.
6. Southern Tornadoes | 3-8 (Conf. 0-5)

Southern’s losing stretch continued last week. Despite putting up a strong fight against Gallia Academy, the Tornadoes fell to the Blue Angels 42-39.
The Southern girls’ basketball team has struggled since their 2-1 start to the season. The Tornadoes have lost seven of their last eight games, with their only win coming against a weak Meigs team.
This week, Southern will look to use the new year as a chance to start fresh and get back on track. The Tornadoes will begin the new year with a busy stretch this week, playing Nelsonville-York on Monday, Trimble on Thursday and a struggling Point Pleasant team on Saturday.
