TVC-Hocking Standings: Southern boys stay firmly in first, Lady Lancers take the top spot

TVC-Hocking Boys’ Standings
1. Southern Tornadoes | 8-2 (Conf. 4-0)

Southern extended their win streak to six games last week. The Tornadoes began the week with a matchup against Meigs County rival Eastern. The Eagles gave Southern a run for their money, coming within seven points, the closest margin of any team since Dec. 13. However, Southern took the narrow win, beating Eastern 70-63. Southern’s next game was far from being close, as the Tornadoes took down St. Joseph 73-33for a strong sixth win in a row.
Southern will look to extend their TVC-Hocking lead this week. The Tornadoes will face second-place Belpre on Tuesday and Trimble on Friday.
T2. Belpre Golden Eagles | 6-5 (Conf. 3-2)

Last week, Belpre showed some rust in their first game in ten days. The Golden Eagles came close to knocking off Waterford, but could not seal the deal, as the Wildcats won 52-46.
Belpre will try to get back in the win column this week. The Golden Eagles will visit Southern on Tuesday before hosting Eastern on Friday.
T2. Waterford Wildcats | 3-8 (Conf. 3-2)

The Waterford boys picked up a big conference win last week, knocking off Belpre, the No. 2 team in the conference, 52-46. The Wildcats rose to the challenge and closed out the game strong against the Golden Eagles. Reese Lang led the way with 20 points, while Finn Pennock added 19 in the win.
Pennock continues to pace Waterford this season, leading the team with 15.5 points per game. Lang is second on the team at 10.5 points per game. Weston Fairchild has been a key presence on the boards, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game, while also shooting 43.5 percent from the field. As a team, Waterford is outscored 52.6 to 45.9 but continues to stay competitive in conference play.
The Wildcats will be back in action Wednesday when they face Federal Hocking. Waterford will then go on the road against rival Fort Frye on Saturday.
4. Federal Hocking Lancers | 4-8 (Conf. 2-3)

After a tough outing the previous week, the Federal Hocking Lancers continue their losing streak with both games in the week.
They hosted a TVC-Ohio contender in the Wellston Golden Rockets on Tuesday, falling to them 37-53. Going back into Conference play on Friday, they traveled to Glouster for their first of two rivalry matchups with the Trimble Tomcats. Despite a good shooting day, the Lancers fell 65-60.
Federal Hocking now sits 4-8 and 2-3 in TVC-Hocking play with two tough conference opponents lurking. Coach Vernon’s squad are trying to get back on track on the road against Eastern on Monday and at home against Waterford on Wednesday.
5. Eastern Eagles | 4-10 (Conf. 1-3)

Last week, the Eastern Eagles played two away games, the first being against the current first-ranked TSL squad, Marietta. Losing the game 80-43. Breaking the Eagles’ eleven-game streak of scoring 50 points a game. The only other game that the team did not score 50 was the season opener against defending state champion, Monroe Central.
Eastern’s second game was against conference leader, Southern Tornadoes. The Tornadoes are yet to lose a conference game and keep this streak up against the Eagles. Eastern lost the game 70-63.
Eastern has two games this week, first in the Nest against Federal Hocking on Monday. Then another conference game at Belpre on Thursday.
6. Trimble Tomcats | 5-9 ( 1-4)

The Trimble boys had a bounce-back week, winning two of their three games.
The Tomcats started the week off by hitting the road to Circleville to face the New Hope Christian Academy Statesmen in a close match, making it out with the win, 59-58. They followed that up with another win against Federal Hocking, 65-60. The streak would end on Saturday as they fell to Nelsonville-York, with a final score of 76-50.
The boys will need to be on their A game on Friday when they host TVC-Hocking leaders Southern. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
TVC-Hocking Girls’ Standings
1. Federal Hocking Lancers | 6-4 (Conf. 5-1)

The Federal Hocking Lancers had a long break not playing games for almost two weeks, but the rust didn’t seem to affect the Lancers in the return. On Thursday, they hosted Belpre in their second matchup of the year. The Lancers put together another complete performance winning 78-45.
After only playing one game in two weeks, multiple major tests for Federal Hocking are afoot. First, they host the reigning TVC-Ohio champion Athens Bulldogs for a cross-divisional clash. Then on Thursday, they do battle with the Eastern Eagles in a rematch of the Lancers loss in early December.
2. Eastern Eagles | 9-5 (Conf. 5-2)

The Eastern Eagles started the week off with a dominant 53-33 non-conference win over Wahama, W. Va. They followed it with a conference victory over Belpre, winning 40-37. The Eagles ended the week with a highly anticipated rematch with Waterford; the first meeting saw Eastern win by nearly 40 points. It was a different story the second time around with the Wildcats coming out on top 59-56.
Despite the loss, the Eagles are still competing for the conference title, with their defense leading the way. They are allowing just over 42 points per game best in the TVC-Hocking.
This week Eastern will play Wirt County on Tuesday. On Thursday, they will have a big game against Federal Hocking who is currently atop the conference. The Eagles won the first matchup at home, 64-58.
3. Waterford Wildcats | 7-7 (Conf. 4-2)

The Waterford girls faced two major tests last week against familiar opponents. The Wildcats opened the week against Sheridan, a team that handed Waterford its only loss last season. Waterford stayed competitive but came up short, falling 44-34.
The Wildcats bounced back in a big way against Eastern, a team that defeated Waterford 59-20 earlier in the season. This time, Waterford flipped the script with a 59-56 win. Brynnlee Pottmeyer led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Shaeli Hayes added 13 in the comeback victory.
Waterford will be back in action Monday when it hosts Monroe Catholic. The Wildcats will then travel Thursday for a TVC-Hocking matchup against Southern as conference play continues.
4. Trimble Tomcats | 10-4 (Conf. 3-3)

The Trimble girls had a tremendous week, winning all three of their games.
The girls started the week with a home win against Fisher Catholic, 57-50. They then hit the road for their next two games, playing the Southern Tornadoes and Nelsonville-York Buckeyes respectively, with final scores being 50-24 and 62-29.
The Tomcats look to keep their feet on the gas pedal, as they host the Belpre Golden Eagles on Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m.
5. Belpre Golden Eagles | 3-11 (Conf. 2-5)

Belpre’s losing skid continued into last week’s TVC-Hocking games. The Golden Eagles dropped a 40-37 heartbreaker to Eastern before being blown out by Federal Hocking 78-45. Those losses extended Belpre’s losing streak to six games, which is their longest losing streak since the 2023-2024 season.
Belpre will try to end their long losing streak next week. However, snapping the streak will be a tall order for the Golden Eagles, who will face 8-2 Williamstown (WV) on Tuesday and Trimble, who beat Belpre earlier this season and is riding a seven-game winning streak, on Thursday.
6. Southern Tornadoes | 3-9 (Conf. 0-6)

Southern grabbed their first win in more than three weeks last week. Before grabbing that win, the Tornadoes had their game against Nelsonville-York cancelled due to a power outage, before a tough 50-24 loss to Trimble. A change of scenery and a road trip to Point Pleasant proved to be just what the Tornadoes needed, as Southern took down the Big Blacks 45-30. That win was Southern’s first since December 17.
Southern will look to use the Point Pleasant win as a springboard for future success. The Tornadoes will play Nelsonville-York on Wednesday and Waterford on Thursday.
