Meigs’ 20-point run leads to second win

POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB)After a slow first half, Meigs dominated the second half and picked up the win 54-40.  

 The Meigs Marauders welcomed the Wellston Golden Rockets on Monday for a physical, well-fought battle.  

 The first quarter of play ended with a score of 10-7, a Marauders’ lead. Meigs sophomore Shelby Yost sank two three-point shots, grabbed three rebounds, and had two steals in the first half. Ella Vaughn grabbed three rebounds. The first quarter started slow, with multiple turnovers and missed shots on both sides.  

 Wellston sophomore Mady Stephenson led the first half with seven points and five rebounds, while freshman Abrielle Weese added six. Sophomore Kennedi Stevens grabbed four steals. The Golden Rockets were up 20-18 to end the half. 

The third quarter opened up with a major offensive run for the Marauders. They outscored the Golden Rockets 20-4 in the period and pushed the score to 38-24 for a 14-point lead. Yost led the run with 9 points.  

The final quarter of play was packed with offense on both sides. The Marauders added 18 more points, while the Golden Rockets put up 16. The final score was 54-40. Yost ended up with 19 points.  

Both teams were physical and fought for the lead the whole game. This was Meigs’ second win against the Golden Rockets this season, giving the Marauders a 2-11 record and Wellston a 0-14 record.  

Meigs heads to Nelsonville-York on Thursday to take on the Buckeyes, while Wellston will head back home to host Alexander.
