Nelsonville, Ohio (WOUB) – The Alexander Spartans (3-10, 1-5) took on the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (7-5, 3-3) in an up-tempo battle. The Buckeyes took charge in this game, coming out on top 93-60, having a 1-1 record with the Spartans.

The first quarter was fast-paced for both teams. It was down and back on the court for the whole eight minutes. The first quarter ended with the Buckeyes in the lead, 20-18.

The second quarter was more of the ball going into the net. Opening the quarter, NY’s Champ Schultz was on a run with five points to bring their lead up. At the end of the second, Spartans’ sophomore Cooper Jace hit a big three-pointer to cut the lead down to three going into the half.

Right out of the gate, Alexander player Noah Ray hit back-to-back threes to give Alexander the lead, 48-45. Nelsonville took the second half and ran, never looking back.

Buckeyes’ sophomore, Grant Elliot, hit a three to extend their lead to 67-56 going into the final quarter of the game.

Nelsonville was heavy on the boards and took every chance to get a fast break; this allowed them to secure a bigger lead halfway through the fourth. After NY built a  30-point lead, both teams put in their subs to end the game.

The Buckeyes took the win, 93-60, in this high-scoring game. Now claiming an even .500 in the TVC-Ohio, while the Spartans drop to last.

They will face the River Valley Raiders on their own court Friday night. The Alexander Spartans will match up with the Vinton County Vikings at home.
