GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — The Trimble Tomcats fought hard at home tonight against the Southern Tornadoes, attempting to improve after a 40-point loss to the team earlier this season. Despite leading for three quarters, the Tomcats would wind up losing in a close matchup 65-60.

Starting the game off strong, the Trimble boys would stay neck and neck with one of the most dominant teams in their region. Seniors Paul Sharp and Luke Orsbourne would put up five and six points respectively and truly showed from the first pass that this team’s talent is spread out amongst them. With Trimble’s boys putting on a good defensive performance as well, the Tornadoes found difficulty, especially in free throws, and the quarter ended 14-13 Trimble.

The Tomcats’ momentum only sped up as the half progressed, with no signs of stopping. Orsbourne would sink both field goals he threw and an impressive three-pointer by Brady Jajczyk would only further their lead. Ending the half 36-26 in favor of the home team, it seemed like everything was coming up Tomcats.

The new half would represent a shift in both team’s performance, although that doesn’t mean Trimble let up that lead by much to begin with. The Tornadoes got multiple three-pointers, notably by Kase Nelson who got both three-point shots he attempted.

The Tomcats responded by continuing their fast pace but found the ball in the basket less and less as time went on. Twenty seconds before the quarter ended, Southern tied it up at 42-42, and you could feel the tension in the gymnasium as this game wound down.

While both teams put the pedal to the metal, Trimble fell behind quickly and continued to fight until the very end. Notably, Luke Orsbourne walked off with an apparent limp and came back shortly afterwards and drained a three-point shot. Jajczyk would also sink both free throws he was given, getting within a possession of tying the game, but fouls and steals from the Tornadoes would result in a Southern win 65-60.

The Trimble Tomcats fall to 5-10 and will continue onto play Newark Catholic on Saturday. Coming off this win, the Southern Tornadoes will remain first in the TVC-Hocking and will play Waterford on Jan. 23.
