TVC-Ohio Boys’ Standings

1. Meigs Marauders | 10-6 (Conf. 6-1)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

Meigs had two games on the schedule this week, the first a nonconference test against Fairfield Union and the second a conference contest against Alexander. After beating Wellston last week, Meigs owned the top spot in the TVC-Ohio.

That top spot stayed the same this week, however Meigs did fall to the Falcons to begin the week 50-49. A close contest came down to free throws, which led the Marauders to leave a few points on the line. Despite the loss, Carson Davis led the way with 25 points and 12 rebounds. He had more than half of the squad’s points.

He also led the way in the team’s second game of the week, a 59-46 win over Alexander. In that contest, he had 27 points and 13 rebounds, wrapping up a stretch of great back-to-back performances.

Both Marauders games next week are against TVC-Ohio opponents, Nelsonville-York on Tuesday and Athens on Friday. If Meigs can win both games, we could be talking about TVC-Ohio clinching scenarios as early as next week.

2. Wellston Golden Rockets | 11-3 (Conf. 6-2)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The Wellston Golden Rockets kept rolling this week. Against Berne Union, Wellston senior guard Wes Briggs put on a show, scoring 39 points. Those points included the senior guard’s 1,000 career point, making him the ninth Wellston boys basketball player to reach that milestone, according to WSEO. Briggs’ performance was crucial in securing a 75-52 Golden Rockets win. Wellston carried the momentum from the Berne Union game into a conference clash with Athens, in which the Golden Rockets took a hard-fought 68-60 win.

Wellston will look to secure their position in the TVC-Ohio with wins next week. The Golden Rockets will face Alexander on Tuesday and Nelsonville-York on Friday.

 3. Vinton County Vikings | 6-9 (Conf. 5-3)

Written by: Ella Hughes

It was a tough week for the Vinton County Vikings who dropped two games. Their first loss came at the hands of nonconference opponent New Hope Christian Academy 65-57 with Josh Montgomery leading the way with 24 points. VC hoped to bounce back Friday night against Nelsonville-York but were unable to find their stride and lost 61-47.

They’ve got two games this week the first being against the Jackson Ironmen on Tuesday. The second is against conference opponent River Valley on Friday. The Vikings will hope to get back in the win column this week.

4. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 9-7 (Conf. 4-4)

Written by: Sam Nolan

The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes went 2-1 this week, including an important league game against Vinton County on Friday, and dropping the out of conference one to Logan the day after.

Cam Sullivan and Champ Schultz had double-doubles in separate games, Schultz’s coming in Wednesday night’s win over Miller, and Sullivan’s coming against Vinton County.

The Buckeyes close the gap with their win over the Vikings, and now look at a gauntlet of Ohio games next week, playing the top two teams in the conference, Meigs and Wellston.

5. River Valley Raiders | 6-10 (Conf. 3-5)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The River Valley Raiders struggled in their only game this week. River Valley visited Waterford and struggled in the hostile environment, losing to the Wildcats 62-27.

The Raiders will look for better results against some TVC-Ohio foes next week. The Raiders will host Athens on Tuesday and Vinton County on Friday.

 6. Athens Bulldogs | 5-9 (Conf. 2-5)

Written by: Luke Schmitt

Athens had a 1-1 record at home last week, winning against Federal Hocking but losing their conference game to Wellston.

In their game against Wellston on Friday, the team played back and forth with the Golden Rockets, Athens leading 30-28 heading into halftime.

Wren Ballew, Theo Smucker, and Collin Chapman were double-digit scorers for Athens, scoring 16, 14, and 13, respectively.

Athens trailed Wellston 47-50 at the end of three. The Golden Rockets squad, led by Wes Briggs’ 24 points, put the Bulldogs away in the fourth quarter, winning 68-60, moving to second in the conference standings.

Athens lost close in another tough conference loss, and they will play River Valley, barring weather cancellations, on Tuesday for a chance to jump the Raiders in the conference standings.

7. Alexander Spartans | 4-13 (Conf. 1-7)

Written by: Joshua Jacob

The Alexander Spartans sit at the bottom of the conference and have a lot of ground to cover to move up. Their next two conference games will be rematches against the top two teams in the conference. They will face off against Wellston on Jan. 27 and Meigs on Feb. 3.

The last time the Spartans saw the Golden Rockets, Wellston put up a dominant 67-36 performance. That game, however, was over a month ago on Dec. 18, so much has changed for both teams.

Meigs was the last game the Spartans had, so they will be fresh in Alexander’s mind. Their focus for that game will be interior defense and containingCarson Davis.

The Spartans other game beside Wellston this week will be a nonconference game against Oak Hill on Satarday Jan. 31.

TVC-Ohio Girls’ Standings

1.Athens Bulldogs | 12-3 (Conf. 7-0)

Written by: Luke Schmitt

The Athens Bulldogs picked up a major conference win this week against their rival, Alexander. The Bulldogs led the Spartans for the entirety of the ball game, displaying a great man defense on Alexander that forced the team to turn the ball over and shoot just 32% from inside the arc.

Lex Koopal led Athens in scoring with 19 points, but her 9 rebounds and 7 blocks were integral to the team’s win.

Quinn Banks and Ella Chapman each had more than ten points supporting their squad in its 53-34 victory.

Picking up a win against the Spartans inched the Bulldogs closer to claiming their third straight TVC-Ohio title, but Vinton County stands in the way. The two teams will compete on Monday, barring weather cancellations, in a game that will decide the conference outcome.

2. Vinton County Vikings | 11-6 (Conf. 6-2)

Written by: Ella Hughes

The Vinton County Lady Vikings split their games this week against Sheridan and Nelsonville-York. Their loss of the week came at the hands of the Generals 51-37. They really turned it around against the Buckeyes winning 64-21.

Sophomore Olive Booth was 4/4 from outside rhe arc for the team leading 12 points. The Lady Vikes will look for more big performances on Monday against No.1 ranked Athens. Their second game of the week will be Thursday at Meigs.

3. River Valley Raiders | 8-7 (Conf. 5-3)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The River Valley Raiders got back on track and shored up their position in the TVC-Ohio this week. River Valley faced Meigs in what turned out to be the Raiders’ only game of the week. Although Meigs fought hard, the Raiders came away with a 47-33 win. River Valley was scheduled to play Southern on Saturday of last week, but that game was cancelled.

River Valley will try to grab a pair of crucial TVC-Ohio wins next week. The Raiders will play an Alexander team that sits only one game behind the Raiders on Monday. River Valley will also play Wellston on Thursday.

4. Alexander Spartans | 11-7 (Conf. 4-3)

Written by: Katie Bailey

The Alexander Spartans are coming off a very busy week. The Spartans started the week with a close win over the Trimble Tomcats. Then they had two devastating losses to big time rival, the Athens Bulldogs at home, and then another large loss away to the Federal Hocking Lancers. But despite the losses at the end of the week, the Spartans have been playing hard in big game moments.

Alexander is sitting comfortably in the middle of the TVC-Ohio standings, with only one game scheduled this week. They are set to play the three-seedRiver Valley Raiders, weather permitting. So it will be interesting to see how the Spartans move in the rankings, with many factors up in the air.

 5. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes | 5-13 (Conf. 4-5)

Written by: Sam Nolan

The Lady Buckeyes had a tough stretch of games this week, losing all three, including one league game against Vinton County. Despite the loss, Madi Pidcock impressed Logan on Saturday, scoring 27 of Nelsonville-York’s 44 points.

The Lady Buckeyes are slated to play Wellston and Athens this upcoming week, barring weather cancelations. This will grant another opportunity to get back above .500 in conference play.

6. Meigs Marauders | 2-16 (Conf. 2-6)

Written by: Joshua Hoerner

The Lady Marauders faced a very tough test against Marietta to start their week, a game they lost 60-30. Meigs’ second contest of the week was at home against conference foe River Valley.

This one was much closer than the game played earlier in the week against Marietta. After a 4th quarter run for the Marauders, it was a nine-point game in the final few minutes. The Lady Marauders fell 47-33. Payton Kranyik dropped nine points in the loss.

As of right now, Meigs will play Jackson on Monday, Eastern on Tuesday and Vinton County on Thursday. Due to the inclimated weather, this schedule could be rearranged depending on the snowfall in Southeastern Ohio.

7. Wellston Golden Rockets | 1-14 (Conf. 0-7)

Written by: Andrew Woods

The Wellston Golden Rockets won their first game of the season this week. Although the Golden Rockets’ game against winless Western was postponed, Wellston still took advantage of their opportunity to win their first game since January 30, 2025. The Golden Rockets took down Ross County Christian 47-39.

That win marks the Golden Rockets’ first win in 358 days and the end of a 19-game losing streak that stretched back to last season. Wellston will look to capitalize on the momentum from winning their first game in nearly a year by defeating some TVC-Ohio opponents next week. The Golden Rockets will visit Nelsonville-York on Monday and host River Valley on Thursday.
