Meigs comes back to defeat Athens

THE PLAINS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Meigs Marauders traveled to Athens High School on Friday to take on the Bulldogs.
The Marauders started off a little slow but only ended the first down by three. Colben Beucler led with seven points, while Collin Chapman led the Bulldogs with five. Athens leads 16-13.
Going into the second quarter, Carson Davis started to heat up for the Marauders, ending the first half with 14 points, six rebounds, and a block. Chapman added six more, to have 11 points total, and Theo Smucker added six to give Athens a 28-23 lead.
Meigs was on fire to start the second half and went on a 25-5 run in the third to tie the game at 40-40. “We just played a little harder and with more focus. I think we guarded them a little better,” Meigs coach Ryan Davis said about what was working for the Marauders in the third. Davis now has 21 points and Beucler has nine. Zach Mullins put up 11 points for the Bulldogs and Chapman still has 11.
The Marauders carried their momentum into the final quarter, ending the game with a 61-55 lead. Davis had an impressive stat line with a total of 33 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a block. Beucler ended with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Meigs was strong with the free-throws, with 16 of their points coming off free-throws and only three missed shots.
For the Bulldogs, Chapman ended up with 19 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Mullins had 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Wren Ballew also had 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Marauders now have an 11-6 overall record, with a 7-1 conference record, and will face Alexander at home on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs are 5-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play. They will face Warren at home on Tuesday.
