South Point, Ohio (WOUB) – The Nelsonville York Buckeyes travel to the South Point Pointers, with the crucial return of Alec Thompson. It was a physical battle until the very end, with both sides turning the ball over. However, the Pointers were victorious over the Buckeyes 48-46.
The first quarter started slow, with both sides struggling to put up points. However, an and-1 three pointer from Gavin Lavy turned crucial for NY’s offense to jumpstart. Multiple missed opportunities from the Buckeyes allowed for the Pointers to keep it close, 12-10 Nelsonville York.
The second quarter saw the momentum swing towards South Point as the Buckeyes struggled with turnovers. Pointers’ Devon Lewis would take advantage with a lead changing three while the first half was ending. However, Nelsonville York would still keep it close despite multiple turnovers. The score at the end of the half was 23-20, Pointers.
In the third quarter, South Point came out with the same physicality as the first half. They continued to force turnovers and took advantage of them. However, the Buckeyes would start to clean up their mistakes and force Pointers’ turnovers. After multiple fastbreaks after turnovers, the Buckeyes would cut South Point’s lead to 6. At the end of the third, 33-27 Pointers.
The fourth quarter, the Buckeyes would continue gaining momentum over the pointers pushing it to a 2-point game with South Point still leading. A crucial three and layup from Lewis would push the South Point lead back to 5. However, you can’t count out the Buckeyes as Grant Elliot drilled the three to push it back to a 1-point game. With the clock dwindling down, Elliot’s three was no good and the Pointers dodge a bullet winning 48-46.
