Vinton County pulls of win against Meigs

McARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) — The Meigs Marauders traveled to McArthur on Thursday to face the Vinton County Vikings. The Vikings would go on to beat the Marauders 69-34.
The first quarter ended with a Vikings lead of 17-7. Senior Emma Leaming led the team with 11, while junior Payton Kranyik led the Marauders with five points.
Going into the second quarter, the Marauders started to pick up some momentum, but they were still down 29-19. Kranyik still only had five, while sophomore Shelby Yost put up seven points and two rebounds.
Senior Alie Hysell also added also added three points. For the Vikings, Leaming led with 17 points with a rebound and an assist. Junior Ali Murphy added seven points and four rebounds.
The Marauders kept the momentum for the start of the third quarter, but lost it halfway through, ending it down 24-42. The five points that Meigs added came off two baskets by freshman Ella Vaughn and a free-throw by Kranyik. On the Vinton County side, Leaming now has 26 points, and Murphy has nine.
Meigs could not pull off a comeback and lost the game 69-34. Kranyik led with eight points and one rebound. Yost had seven points and three rebounds. Vaughn and Hysell added six points, with seven and one rebound, respectively.
Leaming led the Vikings with 33 points, two rebounds, and three steals. Murphy had 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Zoie Nichols had six points, two rebounds, and two steals.
On Friday, the Marauders will travel to face the Athens High School Bulldogs, and the Vikings will face the Wellston High School Golden Rockets at home.
