LOGAN, Ohio (WOUB) — The Logan Chieftains hosted their rival, the Athens Bulldogs, Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup. The Chieftains got out to a hot start and wouldn’t look back, as they dominated the Bulldogs 62-35.
The first quarter would see Logan capitalize off Athens’ mistakes, but the Bulldogs remained competitive as they ended the frame trailing 12-6. However, the Chieftains would dominate both sides of the ball in the second, outscoring Athens 26-6 as Logan entered halftime with a 38-12 lead.
With the game clearly in the Chieftains’ favor, fate would not change much in the second half. Athens did show signs of life in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 17 as they entered the final quarter down 44-27. However, Logan would close out this one, as the Chieftains finished with a 62-35 victory.
Logan played a very clean game overall, shooting nearly 50% from the field while only committing six turnovers, which contributed to their dominant showing. Hudson Edwards and Owen Hughes both submitted great performances, finishing the night with 23 and 22 points respectively. Edwards also added 10 rebounds for the double-double.
The Bulldogs have now lost six straight and are yet to score their first road win of the season. Their last four games will be on the road, and a win may boost their morale.
They’ll get their next chance at a win as they travel to Bidwell to face River Valley in a conference matchup on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Logan will also close their season with four straight road games, as they return to conference play Wednesday to face off against Canal Winchester.
