TVC-Hocking Standings: Southern boys perfect in conference, Waterford girls sit atop after win against Federal Hocking

TVC-Hocking Boys’ Standings
1. Southern Tornadoes |17-2(Conf. 9-0)

The Southern Tornadoes kept rolling last week. Southern won all three of their games, beating Southeastern 62-36, Eastern 70-42, and South Gallia 59-25.
Those wins were enough for Southern to earn the top seed in Division VII. That means the Tornadoes will play Sciotoville East in the first round of the tournament. Before that game, the Tornadoes will get ready for the tournament next week with games against Warren on Wednesday and Belpre on Friday.
2. Belpre Golden Eagles | 11-9 (Conf. 6-3)

Belpre split their games this week. The Golden Eagles began the week with a 56-43 loss to Warren before defeating Waterford 54-49.
Belpre and Waterford, who split their games this season, will get a rematch in the tournament. The ninth-seeded Golden Eagles will begin their tournament run with a trip to Waterford. Belpre will look to prepare for their rematch next week. The Golden Eagles will play Monroe Central on Monday and Southern on Friday.
3. Waterford Wildcats |11-10(Conf. 6-4)

The boys traveled to Nelsonville-York for a non-conference matchup and picked up a 73–69 win in a close contest.
They were back on the road Friday at Belpre, falling behind 11–2 early and ultimately dropping a 54–49 decision. Weston Fairchild led the way with a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The loss marked their fourth conference setback of the season. Southern handed them two losses, while Federal Hocking and Belpre accounted for the other two. They will close out the regular season Monday against Warren.
4. Eastern Eagles | 7-15(Conf. 4-6)

The Eastern boys played two games this week, first to rival Southern. Then played potential future TVC school Fort Frye. Eastern first played Southern, losing 70-41, after Southern’s Reed Brinager put up 35 points. Then on Senior Night the Eagles lost to Fort Frye by four, 42-46.
These two losses finishes Eastern’s regular season. The Eagles have struggled down the stretch this season, falling from second in the Hocking last season to fourth this season. Eastern will graduate all but one member of this team after this year, as the Eagles await their opponent in the post season.
T5. Federal Hocking Lancers | 4-17 (Conf. 2-8)

The Federal Hocking Lancers had a critical week in terms of playoff placing with one last conference matchup. They faced the Miller Falcons and Trimble Tomcats to decide the shakeup of the bottom seeds of the Division VII Southeast District’s RPI rankings. With Federal Hocking, Trimble, and Miller being 12, 13, and 15, respectively, heading into the week, every win was critical.
The Lancers opened their week on Wednesday, traveling to Corning to battle the Falcons. In a low-scoring contest, Federal Hocking fell 45-35 to Miller. Then on Friday, the Lancers celebrated their Senior Night against conference rivals Trimble. Unfortunately for Federal Hocking, the celebrations were soured as they lost a heartbreaker to Trimble 51-46.
With conference play concluded, Federal Hocking is slotted in a tie for fifth place with Trimble in the TVC-Hocking. Before the start of tournament play, the Lancers have on regular season game; a rescheduled matchup against the Fort Frye Cadets in Beverly on Feb. 20.
T5. Trimble Tomcats | 6-15 (Conf. 2-8)

The Trimble boys had one of their most impressive weeks in recent memory, winning their one and only game of the week. On Friday night, they hit the road to face Federal Hocking, a game that stayed close and competitive for all four quarters. The Lancers would come back to be only down by three at the end of the third, but a costly turnover with a minute left in regulation would be the back-breaking mistake, and the Tomcats would get the win, 51-46. That was the boys’ first win since Jan. 9, which came against the Lancers.
The boys will look to keep the ball rolling come Feb. 23, as the boys will hit the road to Corning to face Miller after a game postponement. That game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
TVC-Hocking Girls’ Standings
1. Waterford Wildcats |12-9(Conf. 8-2)

Waterford claimed a share of the TVC-Hocking title Monday with a 59–56 win over Federal Hocking. The Wildcats held off a late push from the Lancers to secure the victory, with Elsie Malec leading the way with 25 points.
Waterford returned home Friday night but came up short against Marietta, falling 48–37. The loss moves the Wildcats to split their week as they close out the regular season.
The Wildcats host Rival Fort Frye on Wednesday to cap off the regular season. The reigning Division Seven State Champions look to be their Rival to end another successful season.
2. Eastern Eagles |14-5(Conf. 7-2)

Eastern had another quiet week, playing one non-conference game against River Valley. The Lady Eagles took care of business with a dominant 62-34 win. Kyrstin Fackler led the way in scoring 21 points, and Braelyn Simpson also posted a double-double with 10 points and 19 rebounds. Eastern had a game scheduled with Meigs, but was cancelled.
This week, Eastern finally has the chance to clinch a share of the TVC-Hocking. With a win over rival Southern on Feb. 16, the Lady Eagles will join Waterford as conference champs. Eastern has also locked up the one seed, giving them a bye, which means they will not play their first tournament game until Feb. 24.
With such a big gap between games, Coach Plummer has picked up a game at Parkersburg South on Feb. 18. The Patriots are currently ranked fourth in the state of West Virginia by MaxPreps.
3. Federal Hocking Lancers | 12-8(Conf. 6-3)

The Federal Hocking Lancers previous week was crucial, leading to the end of the regular season and the start of tournament time. The Lancers started the week with a title eliminator game and ended the week with a division three non-conference test.
On Monday, the Lancers hosted the Waterford Wildcats for their second meeting of the season. Federal Hocking dropped a nail biter to Waterford 59-56, eliminating the Lancers from a share of the TVC-Hocking championship. Federal Hocking closed their week on Saturday with a trip to the state capital to battle the Bishop Watterson Hawks. The Lancers’ losing streak was established as they fell to the Hawks 79-49.
Federal Hocking is now eliminated from a share of the conference title. After two tough losses to two tough opponents, this Lancer squad has learned more lessons before the start of tournament play. Federal Hocking has one more regular season game when they travel to Glouster against their conference rivals, the Trimble Tomcats, on Monday.
4. Trimble Tomcats |13-8(Conf. 4-5)

The Trimble Girls had a significant week, winning their one game, which could be a preview come tournament time. The Tomcats hosted South Gallia on Wednesday on Senior night, and the Rebels would start off as the more impressive team, but Seniors Rilynn Fouts and Kenzie Eing would come out from halftime and dominate in stunning fashion, winning 52-39. They kept the momentum rolling, and they hit the road to Zanesville on Friday to beat Bishop Rosecrans 56-29.
With how the Girls Southeastern brackets are laid out, Trimble will play Manchester in their first game. If they can win that game, they will face the winner of the South Gallia vs. Sciotoville-East matchup.
5. Belpre Golden Eagles |6-16(Conf. 3-7)

Belpre finished the regular season on a high note this week by defeating Southern 41-27. Next week, the Golden Eagles will begin their playoff journey when they host Peebles on Monday.
6. Southern Tornadoes |7-12(Conf. 0-9)

Southern dropped their only game of the week. The Tornadoes lost to Belpre 41-27.
Southern’s playoff run will begin next week. The Tornadoes will take a long road trip to face Whiteoak on Thursday. Before that game, Southern will try to spoil Eastern’s chance at a TVC-Hocking title on Monday.
