GLOUSTER, Ohio (WOUB) — The Federal Hocking Lancers traveled to play the Trimble Tomcats for their last game of the regular season. The offense showed out as the Lancers won, 75-59.
Trimble would storm out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter as the Lancers were unable to hit their shots. After, Federal Hocking would start to click, and McKayla Nelson hit a buzzer beater to give the Lancers an 18-16 lead at the end of the quarter.
A strong run would continue for the Lancers into the second as they built a lead before the Tomcats clawed back into the game. Laura Blower would nail some threes to go up 39-29 at half.
Federal Hocking would dominate on both sides of the ball in the third quarter and prevented scoring from Trimble until late in the quarter. Due to foul trouble, Federal Hocking was forced to go deep into their bench, which allowed some buckets for Trimble.
In the fourth, the Lancers slowed down the pace to hold their lead. They drew lots of fouls and were efficient from the free throw line. Trimble did score some buckets late, but the Lancers won in dominant fashion.
Brenlee Cottrill was the key force for the Lancers, scoring 31 points, with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Nelson and Blower were dangerous from beyond the arc, getting 16 points and 12 points respectively.
Despite the loss, Rilynn Fouts scored 23 points and McKenzie Eing chipped in 14.
Coach Amos Cottrill spoke on the impact of the win “Not our best win, but its good momentum going into the tournament, gives us a couple days of rest and then we can get back at practice.”
The Lancers will play Clay in the playoffs at Southeastern on Feb. 23 at 6:15 p.m. Trimble hosts Manchester on Thursday for their first round playoff game.
