Vinton County falls short against Gallia Academy in the playoffs

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WOUB) — Vinton County traveled to Gallia Academy for a first round playoff matchup in division four. It was a hard fought game with the Blue Angels defeating the Vikings by a final score of 50-46.
The scoring would be back and forth to start with both teams trading baskets. Both teams found a way to move the ball around well, which led to good shots.
Good shot making from both teams continued through the rest of the first quarter. The intensity would then start to pick up from both teams with things starting to get more physical. More pressure started to get applied from both teams on defense.
Turnovers were happening, and making shots was harder to come by for both teams. The Vikings ended up holding a close lead at halftime.
Gallia Academy would take a close lead after half. Great defense from the Blue Angels helped force the Vikings to not find much open space. The Blue Angels found a way to start drawing more fouls and getting to the free throw line.
Things got harder for Vinton County with them not having the lead. They had to keep fighting hard to try to come back.
Both teams were desperate in the fourth quarter and would fight hard to try to get loose balls. Things kept being physical while the teams tried to keep moving the ball around to find good shots.
Gallia Academy drawing more fouls than the Vikings proved to be the difference in this game. The Blue Angels ended up making a majority of their free throw shots. Towards the end of the game, the Blue Angels looked to keep things simple by drawing fouls to help seal the win.
With this loss for Vinton County, it unfortunately ended a good season for the Vikings. With the win, Gallia Academy will move on to face Circleville in the next round of the playoffs.
