Jackson overwhelms Vinton County en route to victory

McARTHUR, Ohio (WOUB) – The Jackson Ironmen (17-3; 7-3 FAC) went on the road to take on the Vinton County Vikings (7-13; 6-5 TVC-Ohio) in a non-conference showdown where they prevailed, 62-46.
Heading into this matchup, Jackson looked to continue their six game winning streak while Vinton County looked to end their four game skid.
Early in the game, Jackson started hot as they knocked down shots and executed a press defense. The Ironmen led 15-6 after the first.
In the second, Jackson took it to another gear as they got sharper from the field, and the defense got even stronger, constantly forcing the Vikings to take low percentage shots. Their advantage grew 32-10, heading into halftime.
But the Vikings did not give up, they came out blazing, driving through the paint, knocking down threes, and toughening up on defense. Briggs Prater, Josh Montgomery, and Nash Yates led the way as they would outscore the Ironmen 20-9 in the third, cutting the deficit to eleven with Jackson up 41-30 heading into the fourth.
VC would try to continue this momentum early in the quarter, but Jackson would recover and pull away. At the end, they would get the victory by a score of 62-46.
For the Ironmen, Steven Jenkins, Charlie Woodward, and Bodhi Wolford fueled their offense, combining for 43 points.
For the Vikings, Jace Moore was a bright spot despite the result by shooting 5/7 from three and leading the scoring with 15 points.
Overall, this was a story of two halves, but the damage that Vinton County suffered in the first was too much to overcome.
The Jackson Ironmen improved to 18-3 overall and look to continue their winning streak against Zane Trace. The Vinton County Vikings fall to 7-14 and look to go into the playoffs on a high note as they conclude the regular season against River Valley.
