SEAMAN, Ohio (WOUB) — In Head Coach Mark Truax’s final game with Nelsonville-York, he and his Lady Buckeyes traveled nearly two hours west to take on the North Adams Lady Devils. North Adams spoiled this trip, and took the Division V Southeast District Playoff opener, 73 to 44.
The first quarter was plagued with unforced errors for Nelsonville-York, and the Lady Devils took advantage. The score after one sat at 18-6 — with an offensive attack led by Emma Pistole, who finished the night with 23.
The rest of the first half was still headlined by North Adams’ offense; as they scored 20 in the second quarter alone. But the Lady Buckeyes were finally able to get some shots to fall— which made it a more competitive 38-21 at halftime. Nelsonville-York star Madi Pidcock struggled in the first, but got her first FG to go in the second quarter, with seven points scored by half.
The third was much of the same, but Pidcock was able to catch fire, as she finished the night with 23-points. Her efforts were simply not enough to keep up with the high-octane offense on the other end, and the quarter wrapped at 54-35.
The Lady Buckeyes pushed for a strong finish, but fell flat, as the Lady Devils shut the door to any comeback opportunities, winning 73-44. This marks the end of Nelsonville-York’s season, and Mark Truax was grateful for the send-off from his Buckeye community.
Truax said after the game, “That was quite a treat. That was definitely a great present, a great send-off for me.”
