Gallia Academy advances to the Convo with a close win against Vinton County

GALLIPOLIS, Athens (WOUB) — The No. 8 seeded Gallia Academy Blue Devils would host the No. 9 seeded Vinton County Vikings for the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Devils would take a second quarter lead to and advance to the Convocation Center with a 46-39 win.
The first quarter would be all VC who started the game on a 8-0 run not giving up points until halfway through the quarter. Gallia would start to find their groove to pull the game within one to end the frame 8-7. The Blue Devils moment would continue into the second quarter and their aggressive offense would force the Vikings to call a timeout with the score sitting at 11-10. Gallia could not stop scoring and ended the half up 17-13.
Vinton County would come into the third quarter trying to close the gap and bring the game within striking distance. However, their offense was struggling with turnovers and missed shots. Gallia Academy was able to capitalize on these mistakes extending their lead 31-20 to end the third.
The fourth quarter was the strongest play from the Vikings who would manage to pull the game within three. Vinton County’s Josh Montgomery was driving this VC offense and setting them up for success. Gallia Academy’s Macen Meadows would counter with clutch three-pointers to continue to pull the Blue Devils ahead. Late fouls and missed shots from the Vikings would allow Gallia Academy to secure their 46-39 victory.
This loss would end Vinton County’s season and the Vikings would finish with a 7-16 record going 6-6 in conference play. Gallia Academy will advance to the second round of the playoffs and take on the No. 1 seeded Circleville Tigers Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Convo.
