ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Athens County coroner’s office has identified the man who was found dead after a fire in raged through an apartment in The Plains three weeks ago.

The coroner named the person as David Stoyer, aged 73. He appears to have moved to The Plains last year from Franklin County.

The autopsy results for Stoyer are still pending because of the six to eight weeks it takes for a toxicology report to be returned, according to the coroner’s office. The cause of death has not been released either.

The investigation is being led jointly by State Fire Marshal and the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, with the fire marshal solely responsible for determining the cause of the fire.

On the day of the fire, the sheriff identified Andrew Martin as a person of interest in connection with the incident. At this time, it is unclear whether Martin and Stoyer knew each other.

Martin was arrested the day after the fire on an outstanding warrant from Franklin County for failure to register as a sex offender.
