BEVERLY, Ohio (WOUB) — The West Muskingum Tornadoes traveled to Beverly to take of the Fort Frye Cadets for a week two matchup. The Cadets would defend their home field, defeating the Tornadoes 42-20, on the backs of their captains.

The Cadets would start on offense and get the ball rolling quickly, as quarterback Grady Hesson would roll right and find his man for a 10-yard pass play. Fort Frye would be faced with a fourth down and be stopped in the backfield for a turnover on downs.

The Tornadoes would waste no time on offense and score quickly as quarterback Jake Welch would find Myles Wakefield down the sideline for a 45-yard touchdown pass; West Muskingum would miss the point-after attempt to make the score 6-0.

On the ensuing kickoff, Clayton Tullius would take the return all the way up to the Cadet 44-yard line. On the very next play, Hesson would drop back to pass but find nothing down field, he would scamper out of the pocket and take off down the sideline before finally being brought down at the 23-yard line. With a little less than three minutes to go in the first quarter, Fort Frye would start bleeding the clock with short three-to-four yard runs and eventually be set up inside the five-yard line. The first quarter would expire on this drive but as soon as quarter two got under way it was full back Tytan Waller wound punch it in the endzone from one yard out.

Once again, West Muskingum would respond instantly; this time it was return man Tavyn Haines housing the kickoff, immediately giving the Tornadoes the lead right back. West Muskingum would try the two-point conversion but be stopped, making the score 12-7.

The Cadets would take over on their own 38-yard line, looking to respond to the kickoff return touchdown, and they would rely on the legs of their backs Tytan Waller and Sam Bricker for short, choppy runs. Fort Frye would be set up in enemy territory at the 36, here they would switch up from the run game and look for Hesson to make a play, he would deliver by finding a wide-open Gavin Rauch in the back of the end zone to put the Cadets back on top 14-12.

The Tornadoes’ next drive would be stalled quickly by the fierce Cadet defense, forcing West Muskingum to punt and give the red-hot Fort Frye offense the ball back.

The Cadets would start with the ball at the 28 with three and a half minutes to go in the half. Hesson would get the drive going by finding wideout Luke Phillips for a quick first down, from here Hesson would use his legs to scamper into the Tornadoes’ side of the field with the clock quickly rolling. Hesson would then again use his legs on a quarterback design run to rush down to the six-yard line, however, time was the Cadets’ enemy as they couldn’t manage to score six and instead had to settle for a field goal. Hesson’s kick would go through, advancing Fort Frye’s lead to 17-12.

West Muskingum would start out on offense but quickly cough up the football as Tytan Waller would scoop up the football and take it down inside the five. From here, the Cadets would punch it in on the back of Sam Bricker, making the score 25-12.

Fort Frye would use this momentum and go on to win 42-20, the Cadets would advance to 2-0 as the Cadets would fall to 1-1.
