GREENFIELD, Ohio (WOUB) — Chillicothe continues their dominant run with their fourth 29+ point win to improve to 6-0 and 1-0 in conference play. The Cavaliers took the win on the road 49-6 against McClain.
The Cavaliers jumped on McClain early, scoring 28 unanswered points to start the game. A productive four-minute drive capped off by a Karter Williams receiving touchdown started off the scoring. Followed by an astounding punt return from Cartae Ligon, in which he broke free from over half of the McClain team to take it to the Tigers’ 25-yard line.
Then a few plays later, he earned his five-yard rushing touchdown to finish off that drive. After a promising drive led by Hudson Lovett ended in an interception, Ligon would punch in his second of the day. Shortly after, Chillicothe would extend their lead to 28 with a four-yard scramble from their senior signal caller, Tay Harris.
The Tigers could never get anything going against this tough Chillicothe defense as their only score of the night came on a 13-yard passing touchdown to the sophomore receiver Taitum Lyons. This was set up by a muffed punt from the Cavaliers, recovered in the red zone.
Unfortunately for McClain, Cartae Ligon would take it personally and put another one in the endzone from 43 yards out to suck the life out of the place. The Cavaliers and Ligon weren’t done yet, though, as he would score his fourth touchdown of the half to make the score 42-6.
The game was decided at this point, but that didn’t stop Chillicothe from letting Trace McAllister get in on the run, allowing him to score his first touchdown of the year.
Chillicothe goes back home next week to take on Miami Trace in a star running back showdown. Julian Baker and Cartae Ligon will go head to head in a matchup.
Once Chillicothe gets past Miami Trace, they will finish out the regular season at home against Washington, at Hillsboro, and close out the year in front of the home crowd against Jackson. McClain will look to bounce back against Washington and Jackson in the next couple of weeks. Then close out their season with Miami Trace and Hillsboro.
