GROVE CITY, Ohio (WOUB) — Grove City Christian was hosting their conference opponent, Berne Union, in their Cardinal Conference match-up. The game was a nail-biter, with Berne Union taking the win, with a final score of 19-13.

Grove City kicked off the game, giving Berne Union the ball on the 17-yard line. Allowing senior James Hocking to rush for 77 yards, starting the game 7-0. The quarter was a stalemate, with neither team able to break through the other’s defence. The quarter ended the way it started, with a score of 7-0 on the board.

The second quarter saw the Rockets fumbling on the first play, with the team needing to play catch-up, but fortunately for them, neither team was able to make progress. The Eagles finally made their break and put points on the board, scoring a safety, making the score 7-2.  Quarterback Caleb Johnson passed the ball to Preston Cooper, putting Grove City Christian in the lead, 9-7. Hocking starts the quarter off hot, once again, running past Berne Union to take back the lead with a touchdown without the extra point, making the score 13-9. He keeps his hot streak alive; he rushed for 32 yards to score yet another touchdown for Grove City Christian, keeping their lead at 19-9 in the third.

Johnson puts the Eagles back in the game, making the score close, 16 points to the Rockets’ 19 points. The Rockets on the 40, the Eagles fought for the ball, not letting the Rockets get the point. The Eagles started on the eight-yard line; it seemed like they had a chance to take the lead.

With Giovoni Cotton making a huge 28-yard run down the field, he was stopped before he could score. It looked like a promising end for the Eagles, getting a first down with three minutes left in the quarter. They couldn’t quite make the cut. Grove City Christian’s quarterback fumbled the snap, leaving the Eagles behind at the end of the game, making the final score 19-13 and giving Berne Union the victory.
